Prague WCs
Are they as bad as I read?
That is to say, are they not even one notch above an outhouse with a half moon cut in the door?
I also hear you should bring your own supplies.

I don't remember them being bad at all and I'm sure I must have used some of the facilities, probably in cafes. Where are these alleged bad toilets?
I do remember going into the Prague Palace to take a look at it and use the facilities. There's also the Intercontinental Hotel, conveniently located. I was in Prague 6 days and my B&B was outside the city and not handy to duck into so I think I would definitely remember any bad WCs.
As to bringing your own supplies - as a woman I normally carry my own supplies since often you find no paper or you get 2 sheets of the thin stuff and have to pay half a Euro for that! I also carry towelettes because soap can be in short supply in public facilities.
Don't believe everything you read. Before I went to Prague I read about the bad taxis but didn't have a problem with those either. I just negotiated the price up front.
Enjoy Prague - its beautiful.

Should have been more specific. WC as in public facilities.
Paris usually had good public facilities. I did get a shock, however, to find a woman attendant in the men's facility.
I guess we are more "conservative" about such things.
I also hear that McDonald's is a good place to go. (right)

i have spent many months in prague and the toilets are no better or worse than the rest of europe imo. and considerably better than what we have here in the uk (i.e. no miles of exposed tubing, pipes, mysterious valves, and separate hot and cold taps). in prague you should expect a more typical european design without exposed piping and having mixer taps so you can wash your hands in warm water (now there's an idea) as you would expect to find in the civilised parts of europe.

No, but do be expected to pay a little to use them. Usually there is an attendant so they are pretty clean. There are public facilities at the end of the Charles Bridge going over to the castle area, to your left before you cross the bridge. There are also some in the Old Town square.

McDonald's WCs are always excellent. Don't know if there is one in Prague. There wasn't when I was there but they may have infiltrated by now.
I've been in facilities where the only differentiation in a large room was women on the right and men on the left and a matron directing traffic.

Thanks for the replies. I was browsing various descriptions of Prague and happened to see one that used such negative terms as "nasty."
It must have been a remnant from the Iron Curtain days.
I have seen some in the US that defied description. I think the worst of the worst was near Polson, MT.
The most spectacular one was at Cabane de Moiry high above the de Moiry Glacier near Grimentz, Switzerland. The metal enclosure was suspended over the edge of a sheer drop of at least 1,200 feet.
No place for the acrophobic.
