in 2 days we will need to travel from Prague to Vienna. Is it best travel via bus or train. Have had some locals say bus and some say train. it seems that bus is cheaper and it appears the routes take the same amount of time. Thoughts????

I took the student agency bus from Vienna to Prague that took the same amount of time as the train, at 1/5 th of the cost. The bus was very comfortable and the service on board was exceptional. I would definitely recommend it.
I took the train from Vienna to Prague.
First class was $162.00 and the seats were huge and comfortable .
We stopped in three town but never for more than 5 minutes.
It was very relaxing and nice to see the Prague countryside from the train.
Don't know what the cost of the bus is.
The cost of the bus was EUR 18 per person. Having travelled at other places in Europe by train, I would say it's comparable to 2nd class in terms of the seats, and comes with free coffee/hot drinks + wifi in CZ.
We are doing the reverse - Vienna to Prague in July and have booked with Mike's Chauffer service. We wanted a side trip to Cesky Krumlov to break up the day. They will also do a straight transfer, no stopping. Depending upon how many people are going, this might be equivalent to the price of first class tickets and you can dictate where you want to go. Also consider it's door to door service, you will save taxi fare to/from the train station.
