Prague to Paris to ??? to Munich?
We would really appreciate your advice!
My husband & I are starting our trip to Europe in Prague on 9/16/04 and making our way to Munich for Oktoberfest on 9/24/04. He has business in Paris so our itinerary now stands as...
9/16 - 9/20 = Prague (w/friends)
9/20 - 9/22 = Paris (business)
9/22 - 9/24 = OPEN
9/24 - 9/27 = Munich (w/friends)
We are flying between cities to save time. We need a recommendation for the 3 open days between Paris & Munich. Friends have suggested flying to Zurich and going to Lake Constance or flying to Vienna and taking a train to Munich.
Any other cool ideas of cities to visit near Munich for 3 days? I always get the best advice from you all!!! Thanks in advance!

Naples. or Lisbon. or Dublin. or Budapest.
Where have you been before?
All these are cheaply connected by flights from Paris, and onward to Munich. Others no doubt. See www.whichbudget.com for details.
Best wishes,
Rex

Some ideas:
1. From Paris to Frankfurt by plane. Not much to see in Frankfurt but you can stay at Intercity Hotel (nice and new) right beside the main train station so you can easily go on daytrips to Cologne (1 hour), Heidelberg (1 hr), and Freiburg Breisgau (2 hrs). From Frankfurt, Munich is 3 hrs and 30 mins by rail.
2. Fly from Paris to Vienna (beautiful and magnificent). Vienna to Munich by rail, 4 hrs and 40 minutes.
3. Fly from Paris to Salzburg. Salzburg to Munich by train, 1 hr and 45 minutes. Salzburg is really so beautiful and it's so near Munich.
4. Fly from Paris to Zurich. Lots of possible daytrips from Zurich. Zurich to Munich by train is 4 hrs and 15 minutes.
Whatever you decide on, I hope you'll have a lovely time in Europe.

September is prime time to visit the Alsace.
It's roughly half-way between Paris and Munich. You could go by train from paris to strasbourg, then rent a car for the 3 days in Alsace, driving along the route de vin, and then take the train from Strasbourg to Munich.

Thank you very much for the suggestions & travel times which are much needed. I like the Zurich & Frankfurt recommendations so we can take day trips to little towns from there. Thanks!!

You have so many cities on the trip, you'll be Baroque-d out! Why not try the Black Forest. Freiburg, Staufen, Baden Baden are all very nice and it would be a great change of pace from all those big cities.
