Hello,
I want to know if there is a direct train from Prague to Dubrovnik...and how many hours? Can I leave around 9 PM and arrive in Dubrovnik the following morning?
I fell in love with Dubrovnik when I watched the "Today's Show" on NBC by Matt Lauer.
How much is the hostel in Dubrovnik? Are the people very accomodating and friendly? How is the weather like? Are there lots of things of see and do culturally?
I need all the advice I can get. Thanks very much.
Jose

Unfortunately I don't think this is possible. I haven't been to Croatia yet, but have been in the midst of planning our trip for next year and Croatia does not have a very extensive rail system. You would be better off considering a flight (check out whichbudget.com) or training to Zagreb (capitol of Croatia) and using Croatia Airlines to fly to Dubrovnik. The trains from Prague to Zagreb seem to be between 12 and 14 hours long according to the German rail website (http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en).
Good luck!
Tracy
My recollection is that there are no trains along that part of the Croatian coast.
you can take a train as far south as Split, coming from Zagreb (I think) - take the train from Prague to Vienna to Budapest then to Lublijana (I think) then Zagreb. And to get from Split to Dubrovnik - take the bus. It will take a long amount of time - you may want to consider the bus.
There is no train service to Dubrovnik. I believe Carta_Pisana is correct in that the closest you can get is to Split by train. There are a few options, though. Flying direct from Prague is pretty expensive, but you can take a flight on Sky Europe from either Bratislava or Budapest, both of which are connected to Prague by train. (You could do an overnight train probably from Prague to Budapest and then catch a relatively short flight to Dubrovnik.) There's also an overnight ferry from Trieste during the summer. There's a lot of culture in Dubrovnik, particularly in the summer, but that's also when prices are really high. It's rare to find a hotel in Dubrovnik under 100 euros a night, but private accommodations are cheaper. During the off-season, hotels are cheaper, but there's less to do. Still, the city is beautiful anytime. The weather is very nice during the summer but cold and rainy in winter. Probably the best times are May or September, when the crowds thin out a bit but when the weather is still nice.
