This may seem like a silly question but not really sure how far they are apart from each to do a one day trip? I looked into eurolines and its very cheap to take a bus from Prague to Budapest but was wondering how long it took or if anyone has ever done this? We are going to be in prague for 5 days so thought it would be nice to do a day trip. I'm sure Budapest has lots to offer but we just kind of want to walk around the city and not do too much touring there. Do you know if there is a local bus that goes from Prague to Budapest as well? Cheers
Prague to Budapest for the day?

According to Google Maps, they are 528 km apart. That's about 350 miles. If you were in San Francisco, would you do a day trip to Los Angeles by bus?
We went to Budapest from Bratislava, Slovakia for a day trip--I think it was about 3 hours by car. Budapest was very nice--we just walked around Buda for a few hours and ate and went back to Bratislava, where we were staying with family. It was a long day of driving. We then spent 3 days in Prague--I could easily spend 5 days in Prague. I think it would be a long trip as the other poster mentioned, and I'm not sure it would be really worth the time it takes to get there to be worth it. Prague has so much to see, and there also some nice day trips you could take to the surrounding countryside that could be nice. We didn't have enough time to do this. Have fun!
Prague has many day trip possibilities:

Kutna Hora
Cesky Krumlov
Karlovy Vary
There are a multitude of castles in the vicinity.
Enjoy Prague and leave Budapest for another trip.
