Prague, Salzburg, Vienna and Budapest 10 day itinerary suggestions?
Planning a family trip in July or August from the US. Any suggestions for best way to hit all the highlights. I know this ambitious time wise. Looking to train versus drive if possible.

3 days in each OK but could do 2 in Salzburg and add one to Vienna, the largest of your cities in terms of things to see and do. Trains are great in Austria and also in Czech Republic and Hungary on mainlines like you'll be taking. Check out the European East Railpass as it lets you hop on any train anytime in all those countries - for lots of good stuff IMO on trains in those countries check out www.seat61.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.
In Vienna I suggest do a day trip to the nearby Wachau Valley - the prettiest stretch of the whole Danube River'slength - take a train to Melk, see the famous abbey there and take a boat down the Danube to Durnstein - a really cute wine village and then train Krens to train back to Vienna. A really wonderful day out.
