Prague - must see

Could anybody tell me, what is the "must see" in Prague? I'm going there for three days in January.

Thanx

Veletržní Palace/ National Gallery Prague would be on my list: http://www.ngprague.cz/en/5/sekce/veletrzni-palace/. Terrific modern art collection in an amazing building. But I'm not sure of your interests.

Without knowing you or yuor interests how do we have a clue?

Mine would be:

Old Town - architectural tours
Town Hall ( a long climb)
Castle and Cathedral Complex
Jewish historic neighborhood with temple, memorial, etc
a host of museums
Check out the music scene - opera if you can get tickets to the opera house - plus a ton of other offerings - check tourist office in Town Hall

paulinemol - We'll be in Prague in mid-February for 4 days (coming from Dresden where we'll be for 3 days). Hope when you get back from your trip you can tell us all about the cold weather and how you fared.

We will be in Prague (also Dresden, Berlin and Paris) in May as the weather should be a lot better!

BTW - Got a great deal on the Hotel Paris in Prague for Feb. Perhaps it will work for yo too in Jan. Go to otel.com Paying $553 for 4 nights which includes all taxes and breakfast. It looks like a gorgeous Art Nouveau hotel. Yes, weather will be better in May, BillT, but bet the hotels will be more expensive!

That is a deal; We loved the hotel and it was called Hotel Pariz in the 90's.

Thats a great website percy has mentioned and well worth basis your trip round thta.
The Library inthe Strahom monestry is stunning,i was lucky enough to see it whilst it was being refurbish and after they finished ,it is quite stunning but don't expect a long trip there.
BillT when in May will you be there.i will be there sometime between the 15th and 30th as thats the dates of the czech Beer festival held in the Holesovice part of the city, its an annual event for me and well worth an evening of any visitors time.

Or just take a guide. We found our guide here: ohmyprague.com

If you don't want to pay, just copy the itinerary from their webpage

Hi,

You can organise yourself a "walking tour" from the Castle to the old town square.

Start at Praszky hrad (Prague castle) and visit the castle. Go down to Malostranske namesti and walk towards Charles bridge. Then cross the bridge and take Karlova street that takes you all the way to the old town square.
here are the details for this "walking tour": http://www.visit-prague.net/2010/02/spend-day-prague/

I would also recommend visiting the museum of communism that is on Na Prikope street - the museum itself is ot that big but definitely very interesting.

Enjoy your trip
Nicolas
