Can anyone recommend taking the bus versus the train between Prague and Cesky Krumolov? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks,

A few years ago we took the train as far as Cesky Budejovice (sp?) and the bus from there. The change is easy. Stations are very close to each other. The bus into Cesky Krumlov leaves you off closer to the center than does the train (that was my understanding at the time anyway).

Neither is very convenient, but I think the bus is actually quicker than the train for that route. This can happen in the Czech Republic. It's a long trip and you have to transfer in Ceske Budejovice for either one, I think (they may have some direct in summer, not sure), and then you aren't really center city at the station. I'd suggest taking a taxi from the station to town center. The bus station isn't too far away, as I recall, and you could walk from there, but the train station is farther (from town center). The one-way trip is about 3 hrs by bus and longer by train.

I agree w/Christina, there is a train for the last leg, but it is a commuter train and it is very slow w/many stops. Take a cab, it is $$ well spent.

Let me clarify, I am suggesting taking the cab from Cesky Budejovice to Cesky Krumlov, it will drop you off in the town square & the town itself is all easily walkable. It is a hike from the train station in Cesky Krumlov, but good luck getting a cab from there (it is walkable though).

We took the bus from Prague-CK direct, and it wasn't a problem. There are enough people wanting to travel this route.<BR><BR>The Czech travel office is helpful with timetables and information. They're located in Wenceslas square. They're not the Prague information center that you see everywhere. <BR><BR>They're close on Sunday and early saturday so we ended up going to the train station and getting our tickets from there. They didn't speak english but it wasn't an issue when all you needed was paper, pencil and numbers written down. <BR><BR<BR><BR>-brownie

From Prague we took the train to Cesky Budejovice then another train (good connections) to Cesky Krumlov. We should have listened to the advice of someone who knew, and taken the bus for the section from CB to CK. The train station at CK is up on the hill overlooking the town and it was a very long walk into town even with &quot;carry on&quot; size luggage. We wern't able to find a taxi at the CK station, so we set out on foot not knowing just how long or how cumbersome the walk would be. However, on the way back to Prague a couple of days later we did it differently. Taxi to the CK train station, train to CB &amp; stored our luggage at the station. Spent three hours having lunch and exploring the huge town square area, then train back to Prague. Both rides both ways were very nice (2nd class seat tickets).

I would still encourage you to actually take a taxi to &amp; from CK to CB. It will save you a ton of trouble &amp; the cost is next to nothing. The only trains we found from CB to CK &amp; vice versa were crowded commuter trains that stopped almost every 1/2 km. It is only maybe 8 km so that trip took nearly an hour + the walk after you arrive.
