Prague, Budapest, Vienna

I will be going with my sisters in May, 2007 to Prague, Budapest, and Vienna.
What hotels do you recommend in these cities
What restaurants are worth going to?
Is there a tour company that you recommend

Hi,
I did this same trip a few years ago. My only advise is that in Budapest our hotel arranged for a private guide. She came with a driver and a van; there were 6 of us. She was wonderful and having this arrangement was so peaceful, relaxing and informative. I do not remember how much we paid, but I know it was not expensive. We stayed at the Hotel Gellert. We went in the winter and they have the most beautiful indoor pool. Because it was off season it was very affordable. The hotel is an old "grand dame". I really enjoyed it but you might want something more modern. I do not remember our guide's name, but I am sure your hotel can arrange for a private guide. Have a fabulous time!!

For Prague you may wish to consider the Hotel Metamorphosis. It is located in a small square with great ambiance, just behind the Tyn Church. That is a very central location in Old Town yet shielded enough to avoid the noise of the main square. The hotel itself has charm and should be in your price range. It also has a very pleasant outdoor restaurant. My own favorite restaurant is the 14 Kampa located on Kampa Island, just below the Charles Bridge. The food is great as is the ambiance and service, yet the prices are reasonable.

skinnurse.....in Budapest, the Hilton on Castle Hill is quite different fom the usal chain hotels...a former army barracks, next tot The Fisherman's Bastion and Matthias Church..great, unobstructed views of Parliament and the Danube....excellent shops and restaurants on the hill...
In Prague, our favorite for the past twenty years is The Three Ostriches ("U Tri Pstrosu&quot smack on the Charles bridge...with wonderful views of the bridge...yet well insuated from the crowd noise...about $200+ now. Good restaurant.
You may want something higher scale than the very good Pension Pertschy in Vienna, but we have stayed there twice and recommended it several times.

The Gellert is a venerable institution, but we used the famous indoor spa and found the sulfur smell overwhelming!

I'm just back from Europe and would recommend Ambiente Pasta Fresca restaurant in Prague--amazing fresh pasta (some meat and risottos, too) in a casual but chic setting. It's at Celetna 11, not too far from the main square. It was among the best pasta I've ever had and I truly love Italian food! Also had a great Caprese salad with homemade fresh buffalo mozzarella. The staff was very friendly and efficient.

Also had a nice meal at Abszint in Budapest. It's on Andrassy. The food was good (a bit of everything--interesting salads, pastas, meat dishes, some traditional Hungarian dishes, cheese plate...), the setting stylish, but not overly trendy and the service was friendly. We stumbled on it by accident but really enjoyed it. Enjoy your trip!
