I just registered at the Alchymist Grand Hotel in Prague. What an exceptional place! The building dates back to 1517 but it has recently been completely redone by an Italian family. Yes, it's over the top, but believe me - this is extremely comfortable and luxurious. The staff is well trained, polite and helpful. The building is fascinating. The bathroom is huge and beautifully equipped. The suite has hand painted frescos on the ceiling, an ornately carved bed, hardwood floors (when's the last time you saw THAT at a hotel!) This is a "must see".

That's the kind of place that makes it worth the trip to Prague! The Waldstein is a bit like that, but on a slightly lower scale (I stayed there years ago, and it was also painted with frescos, etc.) It's also in Mala Strana. Enjoy your stay!!

It's been many years since I was here in Prague, and I had forgotten how beautiful it is. This hotel has made a good trip really special! I highly recommend it.

Definitely. It's a small hotel (only 45 rooms) but I would recommend a drink in the bar, a coffee in the opulent cafe, or even dinner. It's really a treat.

Good God! Now *that's* a hotel -- elegant, rich in history, and expensive as (expletive). If I meet a very wealthy man (or woman, for that matter) maybe I could stay here next time I go to Prague.

Stanley -- you must tear yourself out of that hotel for a few hours to walk around outside -- I hear it's kind of nice. I'm just teasing you of course.

Just made reservations for mid June. Sounds wonderful and really looking forward to it. Only question I have is the location - I understand we would want to stay away from Wenceslas area -Is this where the hotel is located? Is it close to the center.

This hotel is nowhere near Wenceslas Square, It is in Mala Strana (across the bridge from Old Town). It is still in Prague 1, or the center, but on the side where the castle is. There is a map right on the website showing you the location. Sounds like a really nice place. Enjoy.

Don't know how long you are styaing in Prague, but if 3-4 nights, you can book this hotel via Luxury Link, at a pretty significant discount off of rack rates. I have booked this for a 4 night stay in May.

Thanks so much for the suggestionn of Luxury Link. I have been a member and getting their info for a long time and never thought about checking. I had already made a reservation through Summt Hotels, but Luxury Link is a much better deal so I will cancel the Summit one. We will be there 4 nights.

Alchymist is located at the end of Trzištë street that goes somehow pararell with Nerudova street that leads up to Prague Castle. On the same steet there are American and Irish embassies and also another well known 5* hotel Aia. If you go up a small steet to the right of Alchymist, you will get to also well known restaurant David in less than a minute.
