Have tentative vacation plans for husband and I for about 10 days in Italy later September. Flying into Naples then to Positano for 7 nights. Back to Naples, then train to Rome for 3 nights. Are we crazy for trying to stay in Positano 7 nights? Would like to do a few day trips, i.e. Ravello, Amalfi, Capri, maybe Paestum; however, also want to chill on the beach, eat wonderful seafood, drink some nice wines...be romantic. What do you Amalfi Coast lovers think? Is it just too long at one place?
Positano vacation

I think it sounds lovely. Much nicer than changing hotels every other night or trying to 'do' Italy in 10 days.
We spent a week in positano in 2007 and still didn't see everything we wanted to!
Sounds like heaven to me! I think you have your priorities right!!
Great! Will be our first time to the area Thanks

You will have a great time. We rented an apartment for a week in Pos last June and loved it so much I am returning for the same this June! Another option for getting back to Rome is to take the ferry from Pos to Salerno and then direct train from Salerno to Rome.
You will have a great time in one of the most beautiful places on earth!
Have only been in May - when weather was fine. Not sure if end of Sept is still beach weather or starting to get chilly. Definitely fine for sightseeing.
I would stay in Sorrento - but I like bigger towns with more shops and restaurants - and we have a hotel there that we love.
We were also in Raito (near Salerno) at the beginning of October last year and the weather was gorgeous. Even then it was warm enough for beach lounging.
One of the best days of our trip in June was spent at Laurito Beach. Loved it.
We used www.summerinitaly.com to rent our place and they were fantastic!
ekc...Ferry to Salerno then train to Rome sounds good; will have to look into. Sure hope it will be warm enough while we are there to get some beach time! I have heard from friends who have been there that sea is still warm (relatively) from the summer;would you agree?
jamikins...thanks for the link to summerinitaly, even if I don't use this time, looks like great reference for future!
Italy is a dangerously seductive place for me. Husband and I spent 2 wks exploring Tuscany in 2009 and it was fabulous! Am hoping this trip will equal.
