Positano - Villa Rosa or Miramare

I will be in Positano for 5 days in mid April with my wofe. We have rented a car and plan to visit Sorento, Amalfi, Ravello, Pompei and Capri - using Positano as a base. We do not want to change hotels so looking at how beautiful Positano looks we will stay there - so we can have breakfast and dinner in beautiful settings - is that a wise thing to do or should we stay in Sorrento as a base.

Villa Rosa - room with a view and Terrace is costing me 160 Euros per night, Miramare Room 203 for two nights and 210 for two nights is costing me 280 Euros a night...both include breakfast - which one should we stay in and should we use Positano as a base.....Thanks All

Globetrotters! Would heartily recommend Buca di Bacco on the beach...a beautiful establishment and your room would have terrace overlooking the beach. Breakfast feasts are on the balcony and the staff is very efficient and friendly. On our most recent trip we did it without the nuisance of a car...stayed one night in Sorrento and turned in our car. Took bus to Positano, and motor cart met us to take us and luggage to the hotel (no cars allowed that far down the hill)...took small boat for a day trip on Capri, lovely. Took boat to Amalfi and bus up the hill for a day in Ravello...all very convenient, and what a pleasure not having to drive those roads. Believe me, Globetrotter (I'm one, too!), I drive everywhere, but you don't want the hassle of a car on the Amalfi coast.

Stayed at Villa Rosa in May 04 for our honeymoon. Not sure of the Miramare, so can't compare, but we LOVED Villa Rosa. Personally, I would use Positano as a base over Sorrento on the basis of appeal (not necessarily ease). We took the ferry from Capri to Positano and then used ferries to visit Amalfi and Ravello. Having a car in Positano might be a bit of a nightmare -- this was an observation as we watched people attempt to park, drive, etc. I was very happy NOT to have a car on our trip! One less thing to worry about.

Happy travels!

Globetrotter,
Do you have pictures of your room at Villa Rosa? I want to book a room soon and can't decide on the double room or the apartment for 2 couples. Please help by sending pics soon.
Many thanks,
C Caesar

We liked the Miramare. Stayed in the annex. To do it again, i would probably stay in the main building. One major plus for the Miramare is the free boat ride. That was one of the highlights of our trip. Out on the water with a man who spoke basically no english, snorkeling and fresh fruit and wine for the ride back. It was absolutely perfect!
