portugal trip 14 days - where to visit and stay

Jump to last reply

We are flying into and out of Lisbon in September 2014. Have a hotel booked for 3 nights in Lisbon and then intend to hire a car and travel around staying for 3 or 4 nights at a time in different locations from which to explore. We both love nature, walking and beaches where we can swim safely and/or take long walks along the shore. We also enjoy a bit of culture, picturesque towns and villages and sight seeing. Love the look of Obidos and some of the more sheltered beaches south of Lisbon. Would rather overnight outside of lively areas as we are not night owls anymore and prefer quiet locations to get a good nights sleep. Would love to do north and south of Lisbon if possible but do not want to be rushing around - it's a holiday not an expedition We have visited Madeira a couple of times and loved it, staying in the old part of Funchal and taking day trips from there so thought it was time to explore the mainland a bit

All ideas greatfully received
