Portugal and Southern Spain with kids (ages 8 and 11) in December over Christmas and New Years. - any ideas for sights, cities to visit and hotels? We are travelling with 2 active grandparents as well. Also plan to spend a few days in Southern Spain (Sevilla, Granda, Cordoba) suggestions welcome for those places too. Also welcome comments on best way to get around for family of 6. Which is the best place to be on Christmas Eve and Day (where will things be open)? Best place to be on New Years? Thanks

Best transit depends on your specific itinerary - but with 6 people I would rent a van.
As for hotels you need to give a specific budget - in dollars or euros - and how many people you plan on putting in each room. I wold do a search to see what - if anything - is open on Christmas or New Year's Day.
You should be aware that if you do rent a car the drop off fees Spain-Portugal are very high. If you are going for two weeks maybe you could rent a van in each country. Unless you are returning it to the original country.
We just rented an apartment for 5 people for three nights with Sevilla5.com for 185 euros including small breakfast .
