Portugal
I am thinking of going to Portugal or Croatia in fall but I never, never hear or read about anyone going.Can anyone give me advice? Espc with all the euro fears going on. Thanks!

I have been to Portugal but it was many years ago now so I am guessing times may have changed somewhat.
We hired a villa in Cavoeira (sp) (it really wasnt that expensive) and hired a car so we could get about.
The larger town we visited was Albufeira and this is where alot of tourists stay.
I really loved our time in Portugal but I think if I had the choice today I would choose Croatia. It really is one of THE places to holiday at the moment, supposedly, and I have a few friends that have gone and said it is absolutely stunning. It is also just that little bit "different".

If you search on this board you will find information on Croatia and Portugal. You can read, read, read about both countries.
I've been to both and prefer Portugal; the food and wine were better and the overall sightseeing was better. The people were friendlier (I'm not saying that the Croatians were not friendly so please do not take it that way - friendlier is a comparative).
If you choose Portugal then go in October to avoid most of the heat (unless you're a heat lover). If you choose Croatia then go earlier in the fall to avoid cold and rain.
What are the "Euro fears?" I just got back from Germany and Paris and had no fears of Euros.

We were in Portugal last October, and loved it. We did Lisbon, Evora, and Sesimbra. The food was good, especially if you like seafood, the people were low key but friendly, and getting around was very easy. Portugal is relatively inexpensive - a meal in a good restaurant will run $15-$25 plus wine. We stayed at very pleasant hotels and apartments for under 80 euros a night. See my trip report -
