I am thinking of taking a night train from Cannes to Barcelona (using my Eurail pass), but the timetable shows that there is a 3 hour wait at Port Bou (from 6am - 9am). Is it far to get to the main part of the city (town?) from the station, and would there be anything open at that time, eg to at least have some breakfast? It will be a week day. I don't fancy having to sit at the station twiddling my thumbs for 3 hours.
Thank you.

Port Bou - anyone know anything about it?

What is your travel date? Are you considering taking the 22:52 departure (#'s5506/5507) from Cannes? If so, that arrives Port Bou at 6:14 the next morning and there is a train at 7:35 AM for Barcelona which would minimize your layover. But the availability may depend on your travel date.
Port Bou is not a great big city by any stretch of the imagination...last I weas through there (on the night ytrain bound for Milan) there were all sorts of folks camped out on the platforms with backpacks, etc., waiting for the next connection.
Thanks for your reply, Intrepid. I haven't firmed up a travel date, but it will probably be Thursday 21 April or 28 April. You are spot on about the time of departure from Cannes. If there is a 7.35am train to Barcelona that would be great. It would beat waiting around for 3 hours, as the timetable I looked up showed the next train as leaving after 9am.
Thanks for your help. Regards.

I was on a bus en route to Figueras from Collioure, and all I remember about Port Bou is that it was dominated by railroad tracks, etc.
