Please suggest good,reasonably-priced restaurants in Glasgow city centre area for 19 & 16 yr olds.
My 19 and 16 year olds are going to be visiting Glasgow area in July 2005. Any suggestions for good cheap places to eat while shopping in central Glasgow. Also, any suggestions on things to do and see that would be appropriate and safe for teenagers. Does anyone know of any special events taking place in Glasgow area July 6-13 appropriate for teenagers?

Glasgow has some great Indian restaurants- the Ashoka West End (watch out there are others with similar names) and the Shish Mahal are but 2.
There are some good Chinese too. My favourite is the Loon Fung in Sauchiehall Street.
Coia’s in Duke Street and D’Jaconelli in Maryhill Rd are two old Tally cafes.
The Willow Tea Rooms and the Art House Cafe catch the McIntosh theme of the douce West End, and they would do worse than Babbity Bowster for Sunday breakfast

A lot of the best value eating in Glasgow (especially at lunchtimes) is in bars & pubs, but unfortunately your 16 year old might have a problem getting in as some (but not all) of these places will refuse to admit under 18's. There's no real rule of thumb - just ask. As Sheila has said Glasgow is full of good Indian restaurants and these will almost all have specially priced lunch-time & early evening menus, as will most Chinese &
Italians.
The current trend in the city, especially among the younger crowd, seems to be for all you can eat Chinese buffets where you pay a set charge depending on the time of the day. Note, however, that the price is set at the time you leave & NOT at the time you arrive. So for example if the price rises from, say, £7 to £10 at 6.00 p.m. & you arrive at 5.00 p.m. and leave at 6.05 p.m. you will be charged the full £10.

Babbity Bowster is great on weekend afternoons - folk musicians gather there with instruments, play whatever the mood takes them. If it's one the crowd all know, the pub joins in (good burst of "Scotland's Story" will do it), otherwise you might be asked to hush for someone to sing to you all. Makes for a great atmosphere. The food is pretty good too!
Café Gandolfi is good - Merchant City is a great place to eat and drink.
For seafood, try the Mussel Inn. For Italian, try Fratelli Sarti - they have two city centre restaurants. Mother India is great.
Out in the West End, they might like Ashton Lane.
