To get an idea of what I like, I once spent a perfect week in a small hotel in Istanbul's historic district. The hotel sent someone with a van to pick me up at the airport, and at the end of my week stay, they delivered me back to the airport (for a fee).
I never rented a car because my hotel was in walking distance of a multitude of historical sights, restaurants and museums.
I felt perfectly safe whenever I walked.
On one day during my stay, I used public transportation to travel outside the historic district.
The hotel was close enough to sightseeing that I could walk back to it mid day for a rest.
The hotel rate was approximately USD150 night which included breakfast.
If you can suggest a hotel in Prague that would give me a similar experience, could you please suggest it?
Please recommend place to stay in Prague

I can't promise that they'll send a van for you, but try the Adria Hotel in Wenceslas Square. I stayed there and it's excatly where you'd want to be, easy walking to everywhere.
Hotel Metamorphosis would be perfect for you.
http://www.hotelmetamorphis.cz/ It is just off the Old Town Square, in a quiet courtyard.
You could consider this hotel that's in the middle of the old city. It's at the foot of the Charles Bridge. Ten of fifteen minutes walk up to the castle. Or about the same amount of time to the old city center. Ask for a room looking out at the bridge. www.utripstrosu.cz For information www.inyourpocket.com/czech-republic/Prague
You can always book a car service from and to the airport. It's very easy to do; you don't need the hotel to do this for you. That will give you many more hotel options in Prague.
I never rent cars for city stays, I don't see the point as you can't drive in the historic district and you usually have to pay for parking.

Bishops House, right off the Charles Bridge-a small hotel
located in the former home of Prague's archbishop. It is within walking distance of the historic sites on both sides of the river. I should warn, however, that the castle is way
up hill so a bus ride up may be easier on your knees. I found the Wenceslaus Square area to be too busy and I did not feel
particularly comfortable there.

Another vote for Hotel Metamorphis. I stayed in one of their apartment suites and absolutely loved it. I walked everywhere.
I used 123Prague for airport transfers. http://www.123-prague-airport-transfer.com/
>>>Ask for a room looking out at the bridge<<<
I,too, am a fan of Iris's (Dick's) suggestion above for Hotel U Tri Pstrosu (The Three Ostriches)..smack on the side of the Charles Bridge (Karluv Most). Can walk easily to both sides of the Vltava. We had a car one time and didn't use it at all.
Again, as Dick says, ask for a room with view of the bridge..spectacular. Last time we were there, we awoke to a dusting cf snow, and pedestrian footprints had already begun to appear. (I will post pix below)
Stu (hi Dick and Anne)

(a few of these are of our "crashing" the press conference held by President Havel. A great man, writer, poet and Czech patriot, he died last year).

P.S. I should explain the pictures of The Judith Tower on the lesser-town side of the bridge. The tower, smaller of two at that end of the bridge, was named for a 9th century Bohemian Queen Judith, and for centuries since, called The Judith Tower. My late wife's name.....Judith Tower.
Wenceslas Square is close to some iffy areas - it's at the border of Prague 1 zone and you want to be squarely within the zone.
Another vote here for Bishops House. It fits the bill of requirements you laid out. U Tri Pstrosu is about a block away from it.
I would not walk uphill to the Castle - take metro or tram. Then walk DOWNhill from the Castle.
Agree that Wenceslas is a bit out of the way. But still interesting enough to walk during the day. And keep in mind, that's were much of the Velvet Revolution happened. We always walk to the Castle. Too much lovely architecture for us not to admire. It is uphill to the castle, while the walk to the old town square is on the flat from U Tri Pstrosu and probably also from the Bishops House. Good locations from both hotels. [HI STU]
Great photos, Stu. It looked cold when you were there and how exciting that you were able to go to President Havel's conference. Imagine an important Czech building named after you!
It is very common for Prague hotels to have a car service working for them which you can arrange. So most hotels will do that, I bet (at least 3* and higher). I think the hotels I stayed at in Prague that do have a car service they work with regularly (I like that as they wouldn't use them if they were cheating people) and are very central are most expensive than what you want to pay now. But they were the Hotel Pariz and the Maximilian. I loved them both.
Actually, I just checked the Maximilian and their rates are pretty good, around 100 euro per night in a summer special. see www.slh.com
Another vote for the Bishop's House. It is in the perfect location, right by Charles Bridge, but very quiet. Interesting rooms. We were on the top floor which had a balcony on the roof-Stunning views of the City, especially the night a storm was brewing-the lightning with the spires of Prague was truly a sight to see. It is an uphill walk to the castle, but you can take a bus up. We walked down and admired the architecture. It is a flat walk to the Old Town Square.
anyone in here can post link to bishop's house internet website??? thanks

After much searching of 4**** hotels, I will be staying at the Hotel Klarov. http://hotelklarov.cz/home-en/
I liked to pricing for a junior suite, as i will be traveling with my 86 year old mother. She'll sleep more than me, so a separate room to read or watch the TV works for me.
Price is US $122 per night. Rooms all have view of the Vltava or the castle.
I plan on spending 5 or 6 nights in Prague in late August and would like anyone's opinion of the IRON GATE HOTEL. Thank you.
We stayed at the Hotel Paris.
http://www.hotel-paris.cz/en/5-star-hotel-prague/
A very brief search showed that rooms were 187 Euro a night, but there is a 20% discount if you book for 3 nights, which is how we booked our room. Breakfast is included.
It is across from the Municipal House and easy walking distance to many major sites. Public transit is 1/2 block away if you want to explore further.
On or first trip to Prague we stayed in the Hotel Pariz, now Hotel Paris---loved it.
Looks like the OP isn't coming back but these are great suggestions for others.
We stayed in Clarion Congress. Its quite accessable since the train station is just beneath the hotel, about 2 floors down. The first floor down is like a shopping center which is convenient. Its about 10-15 mins train ride from the station where you can reach the tourist spots. Its quite cheap also. You can also buy a day-pass for the train.
Looks like the OP isn't coming back but these are great suggestions for others.
Hello Adrienne...this is all too common here on Fodor. OP asks questions, gets a ton of relevant responses..poof! never to be heard from again. I call it bad manners.
How about vacation rentals (self-catering) as an alternative? They offer great value, offer you the privacy of your own home, and many offer a very central location. A good example is Bohemia Apartments. www.bohemia-apartments.com
Hi Letusgo,
That is exactly what we looked for when we went to Prague, and it worked like a charm. The hotel is called Pod Vezi. I wrote about our experiences there in a trip report which you can find here:
http://pedro-in-spain.blogspot.com.es/2012/07/prague-and-environs-in-4-days-1.html
I would not recommend Wenceslas square. Too touristy and tacky. Active pickpockets were at work there. Plus it is too far from the Charles Bridge, which is the area we preferred. Or even across the bridge.
I would recommend the Hotel Klarov. It's a 4**** hotel with good reviews.
http://hotelklarov.cz/home-en/
They have discount rates for multiple days. I'm staying there next month, and the rate for 2 in a Jumior Suite (2 rooms) was US $122.50
It is in the lesser town, next to the Vlvata River.
They are a block or so from the river.
Less than 2 blocks away is the mainline Metro stop, Malostrandska.
Check out this map for various bus, tram an metro stops, as well as marjor points of interest.

Another map of the Metro. http://www.pragueexperience.com/maps/metro.asp
Fare prices http://www.dpp.cz/en/fares-in-prague/
You can find YouTube videos on how to use the metro.
We didn't stay there, but walked by Hotel Metamorphosis and thought it looked nice, as SloJan and walkabout recommend above. Great location near the square.
http://www.hotelmetamorphis.cz/
LivingPrague.com is a wealth of recommendations.
For a contemporary hotel in an historic building, the Hotel Neruda is very nice. It is halfway up the hill, across the river, so some people might not like that. http://www.hotelneruda.cz/
We had lunch on their very nice rooftop cafe, and looked around the lobby, but did not stay there. It is also in 'lesser town' and is not quite as crowded, except tourists walk up that hill to visit the castle. Nice views from there of the river and Prague.
Wait! OP did come back at the end of June, and used the suggestions listed to go to the hotels websites and read up. I just never commented.
I was thinking of this trip for this summer, but did something else instead.
Still, I thank everyone who replied with ideas as I did very much appreciate them and maybe another year I will see Prague.
