Please help with Rhine & Mosel accomodations

Jump to last reply

I will be flying into Frankfurt July 3, 2012 & head straight to the Rhine for 5 nights. Through my research, I've decided I'll spend those nights in St. Goar. Then, I'm headed over to the Mosel for 4 nights and have selected Cochem as a base. It has been years since I've been to this area and would like to enjoy the rivers at a slower pace. I will not have a car this trip and be relying on trains for travel. I sent out 4 requests for reservations to St. Goar & 4 to Cochem the beginning of December. As of yet, I haven't received any responses. Is it too early for the reservation process in this area? Is everyone on holiday? Should I re-send my requests? Or, would anyone care to recommend favorite hotels or apartments? I am a solo traveler and need to keep my accomodation cost reasonable - below 75E & the lower the better. I don't need luxury, 2 or 3 stars is just fine for me. I am however looking for something with a balcony or private terrace. I can stay just outside both towns as I am a serious walker/hiker. Somewhere across the river from Cochem would be just fine & even preferable for staying away from the crowds during the day & enjoying the view from my balcony in the evening. Can anyone give me advice or accomodation suggestions? Thanks to all in advance!
