If you're driving a rental car, and plan on being in the city for 4 nights, just drop the rental off and pick up a new one when you're ready to leave.
Few 2 or 3-star hotels in Madrid have parking, at least not in the central area where most tourist hang out, but there are some. Check the NH hotel chain.
As far as parking, you can expect to pay €18 to €25/day for the privledge of putting the car in a parking garage, the price of a decent menu del dia for one.
We stayed here last summer, in Madrid. It is a wonderful apartment.
See:http://www.homelidays.co.uk/EN-Holidays-Rental/110_Search/SearchList.asp?MODEAFFICHAGE=NONE&TYPE=&NBPERSONNES=&ADR_PAYS=&ADR_LOCALISATION=&noregion=Not+available&IDX_LOCALISATION=0&DESTINATION=&JOURDEBUT=&MOISANNEEDEBUT=&JOURFIN=&MOISANNEEFIN=&PK=391329
Cut and past the above. If it does not work, go to homelidays.co.uk and put in 391329 in the reference number box to see the apartment. We loved it.

I know the Hotel Prado, a 3 stars near Plaza Santa Ana, has parking on site. I never used it and dont know what they charge.
The Prado, now part of the ACCORD hotel marketing group, does have a small underground parking garage. You'll have to check with them regarding the rate.
If I'm going to spend a few nights in a city/town, I drop my rental car after checking into my hotel and then pick up a new car when I'm leaving that city.
Thanks a lot for the ideas -> it's very much appreciated!

Star ratings really don't have that much to do w/ room rates. stars indicate services/amenities -not price. So what is your actual budget including parking?
What is your budget? I found Madrid to be very reasonably priced. To the point above, if lower starred hotels mean you pay over 25e a day in parking, you may as well go up in stars.
booking.com has a search feature for hotels with free parking
Check there but better to not rent a car to sit in free parking might reconsider that plan not too economic.Better to
rent drive or not rent train and bus.
all, thank you very much for the ideas and good advises!
jkbritt, do you remember if parking was possible in the apartment that you recommended? Thx
If you are going to stay the 4 days visiting Madrid, I suggest you not to rent a car because you will not need if you rent an apartment at central Madrid. I suggest you homesfortravellers.com to find central apartments at very good rates. Some of the apartments also have a private parking space, although, as I told you before, I recommend you to discover Madrid on foot.
