If this turns out to be a duplication, I apologize. I cannot find my earlier post and cannot sit still any longer waiting for it to appear. It's been that kind of day!
I have posted this on the African board but I am unfamiliar with the posters there and I KNOW some of you will respond if you have any ideas...
DD is finishing her tour of service with Peace Corps and plans to visit a friend in Ghana before coming to meet me in Amsterdam for a week before we both fly home to Atlanta.
She used KLM freq fly miles to get the ticket to Ghana. B/C she first registered with NWA here in the States, the transaction had to be completed by them , not KLM. AND NWA said they had to mail the ticket to a USA address. (I begged; no avail.)
So, now I have her ticket and i am finding it impossible to get it to her. So many snafus that I am beginning to wonder whether I am the one living in a third world country!
I have emailed KLM to ask whether I can DHL / FedEx the ticket to them so DD can pick it up on the day of the flight. So far, no response.
She must leave her remote village on Aug 30 to attend Close of Service meetings so there's also an element of it-just-might-miss-her-if-it-takes-too-long.
If she misses that trip, there's a domino effect on our trip or she'll have to pay for a hotel room in Nairobi until it's time to meet me in Amsterdam.
Any suggestions??
Please help frustrated mom get ticket to DD in Kenya!

Sally, if you click on your screen name, you will see that you posted first on the Africa forum, and you have already 2 replies there.
Other than the advice to click on your own screen name to bring up previous posts, I'd get on the phone PDQ to FedEx and DHL to see how quickly (or if it's even possible) they could get the ticket to her. I wouldn't sit around waiting for KLM to reply. Good luck.
How about Peace Corps Headquarters? It might sound goofy, but it is the first thing that popped into my mind. Maybe a kind soul there could help you?
My local US Congresspersons have been known to really come to the aid of overseas constituents; surely a PC volunteer deserves a little help? Maybe someone can make a phone call to to KLM or NWA?
good luck !
I have talked with so many DHL and FedEx folks today that my head is swimming. Believe me, I have not been sitting on my hands today! I have already begun work contacting the PC folks but they too have not responded. And, I have checked the African board; one of those responses is mine. i know this might sound curt, but I really have tried everything I could think of. The idea about contacting a politician hadn't occurred to me. That just might work!
WHERE will those "close of service" meetings be conducted and for how long a period?
Is it possible you could have the ticket delivered overnight to THAT location?
Good question, Intrepid. I don't know. Neither she nor I expected this kind of trouble so I just didn't think to ask. It may be Nairobi. It may be Mombasa. Actually, it could even be one of the offices near the Indian Ocean... I will hear from her before she leaves her village, but I have no idea whether that will leave me enough time to "overnight" something (which, realistically, could take several days!)I can only pray she makes a special trip to the nearest computer in order to ask, "Hey, Mom, where's the ticket??"
Guess I will have to continue trying to talk with the Peace Corps folks...
Thanks,everyone.
That's exactly what I was thinking, Intrepid. I didn't realize that DD was relatively out of touch though. Sallyjane, please keep us posted.
Does American Express have an office she can get to? What about the US embassy or consulate in the area - it seems like they might hold the tickedt for her. Or perhaps the office of one of the major tour companies (probably for a fee of course)? And getting an envelope delivered should not be much of a problem - it;s not like you're sending a box that would require customs review.
(We have used FedEx Documents Service all over the world and you can things almost anywhere in 2 days in my experience - as long as you have a reliable, findable deliveree.)
ttt
Another thought.
I'm a little confused by the Ghana/Nairobi business. From which does she need to get to Amsterdam? And won;t she need - or couldn't she get one night in a good hotel (that would hold the envelope for her) before flying to Amsterdam?
Update: Finally heard back from Peace Corps, KLM, and DHL. So far, so good. The ticket is leaving GA today and I have been promised it will arrive at the Peace Corps office in Mombasa by Aug 26. (Keep your fingers crossed.)
DD cannot be reached so I have to wait until she treks to a computer to ask "What's Up, Mom?" and finds the explanatory email.
Thanks for listening and for helping. I appreciate you.
Hi S,

Let's keep our fingers crossed.
Thank you, kind sir!
