I'm planning a wedding in Italy and will try to do this without the help of a planner, to save costs. Has anyone done this before? I need to find out how to contact town halls, a translator, etc. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I'm actually starting to plan a wedding in Tuscany myself... I'm still trying to decide on a wedding planner (leaning towards atuscanwedding.com or originaltuscanwedding.com)... if you want to avoid a planner all together, you may just want to check out their sites to get ideas for locations- then email the location... another thought, to save on some of the hassle, is to technically "marry" in your home country and then have a symbolic ceremony in Tuscany... which towns/halls/venues are you considering? And, as I am planning my own wedding, please let me know what you find!

Hi Gored01 - I am currently planning my own wedding in Tuscany without the use of a planner. Yes, there are many steps to preparing the legal paperwork requirements but it is easy enough to follow and I am very confident with managing this myself. You will need to look into this for your country of origin. I am from Australia and have been in contact with the Italian Embassy in Melbourne to get an understanding of what is required. We have chosen a civil wedding and I contacted them directly. Depending on your location (ie if a bigger town) you may get someone who can speak English. I did for Siena but that was our back up location. For Certaldo Alto (our dream location) they do not speak English so had to use Google Translate to communicate via email. It is working so far but I always translate English to Italian and then back again to English so I can see that the translation is actually saying what I want it to!! The forms are in Italian so you may need someone locally to assist when completing them. Civil weddings are conducted in the local town hall so just search on google if you plan to marry this way. I am not sure how to contact churches but maybe it is similar. I would look on some wedding planner sites to get an idea of ceremony locations and then search on the internet to find them yourself. I have found my suppliers either on line or via word of mouth. I found my translator this way and she is really lovely. She has even given me some names of suppliers too. If you plan to stay in a villa, ask them for any good local suppliers as well. You will find they will be very willing to offer suggestions. I have to say, it has taken some effort but I have enjoyed it none-the-less so my advice would be, if you are super busy or the date is close, I would get a planner. If you can fit the planning efforts into your schedule, then go for it. I have used Pinterest to store all of my inspiration images and forward that onto suppliers so they understand my vision so hopefully it all translates on the day. Ours is just 7.5 months away and I can't wait. Goodluck with your planning efforts
