Has anyone been to Slovenia lately? I am planning a trip for 2002. What is the best way to get around the country, car, bus? What airline? What sights are the best?

Hi We were in Slovenia several years ago and were very pleased with our trip there. The only incident we had was with the Holiday Inn in Ljubljana. They wouldn't honor the written reservation we had unless we paid more than the agreement. We rented a car, I believe in Munich drove to Slovenia. Ljubljana is a very nice and friendly city. From there we drove to Postojna for a tour of the cave, then to Predjamski Grad, castle built on rock. From there we drove to Piran on the Adriatic. Found a wonderful hotel and apent the day. You can only park in Piran overnight if yiu stay in one of the hotels. Very good Italian restaurants especially seafood.. Many Italians visit there by yacht and there were English tourists in town. Much nicer than Portoroz to stay in. the hotel balcon was tiled in white and the view was wonderful, the Adriatic was so clear. It's an easy drive toi Italy from also.

We were there Summer 2000. Beautiful country, lovely people. We had our own car with us so I am not sure what public transport is like. Bled was nice but I thought that Lake Bohinj was even nicer. It is less developed and touristy. Older people speak German as their second language but anybody under forty seemed to be pretty fluent in English. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves especially as everything was about 25% cheaper than it is here in Ireland. The weather was lovely too!
Lois, I'm going for a week of my vacation in May and would be happy to send you any notes if you're interested (just drop me an email).
My boss just got back from HIKING in Slovenia....?! Let me know if you are interested in doing this and I'll get you some details...
