Planning A trip
Hello,
My husband and I are planning our first trip to Italy for 11 days. Flying in and out of Rome.
Here is what we have so far -
Day 1 Rome
Day 2 -3 Venice
Day 4 - Florence
Day 5-8 Amafi Coast (maybe stay an extra day here Day 5-9)
Day 9-10 Rome (or make this Day 10)
Day 11 Home
Should we skip florence and spend the extra day Amafi Coast? In the Amafi Coast we wanted to see Sorrento, Positano, Naples (Capri?) Can we fit in Tuscany on the way back to Rome?
Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks everyone!!!

You have a halfday in Florence so yes I would skip it. anyway trains are the best way to go between all those - book your own online tickets at www.italotreno.com www.trenitalia.com - can get deep discounts if book really early - www.seat61.com will clue you in on this; general train info www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

If you are comitted to flying into Rome, take the train on your arrival day to Venice. It is about a four hour ride, very comfortableand deposits you right in the heart of Venice.
That way, you avoid splitting your time in Rome into two parts.
I agree with other posters that you are trying to cram in a bit too much. With say ten nights, three or maximum four places to sleep would make more sense.
If you do book open jaw flights, then fly into Venice and out of Naples. Then your trip looks like Venice, train to Rome, train to Naples, a bit of Amalfi coast then fly home out of Naples.
Flights out of Venice towards the USA leave early in the morning, and that can be a hassle. I think you could give Florence a miss this trip.

If flying trans-Atlantic, it may be more efficient to use a multi-destination search function to fly into one city and home from another. You might have to make a connection at a European gateway, but even if it's through Rome, a local plane is likely to be easier than connecting via train. My choice would be to hit Florence or wherever first, tour back to Rome and fly home from there.
