Planning a trip

Here I am planning a trip with six friends, we thought that starting from London from the 24/8 and returning to Syd on the 22/9
I have also found a cruise on the Mediterranean for six nights from Venice on the 6/9 to 13/9 visiting the following ports Ancona, Kotor, Corfu, Gythion, Cefalonia, Dubrovnik , Venice
Then finish our trip in Rome for a few days flying out on 16/9 to Thailand
The first part of the trip we would like to know is it better to do a tour, just need ideas of where to start

Tell us a bit about yourselves. Age group. What you like to do? Have you travelled before? What are your expectations of your trip? What is your budget etc ......

We are all early 50
We want to experience a few places in Europe maybe the main parts as it is such a big place to explore we don't want to be rushed. We have all travelled before so are trying to get an itinery together but we definitely will be ending with the cruise.
We want to go to Paris, Amsterdam Switzerland making or way to Venice to connect with our cruise.
Our budget is limited so we are looking for a reasonable price for us
Thank you for your reply

You're looking to fill the time from August 24 to September 5 - 12 days.

I doubt you'll find a tour that covers Paris, Amsterdam, and Switzerland for 12 days and tours are expensive. You can easily cover this area (providing you do not want to see all of Switzerland) on your own by train. Train prices will be cheaper if you book ahead (usually 90 days before your departure).

You can use this site to see train schedules and duration but book the tickets on the country-specific train web sites.

Please don't forget to add in travel time for moving around from place to place.

Thank you for your comments, we have also had suggestions to base ourselves in one area and make tracks from there we really only have seven days to look around before we head on our cruise anyone have suggestions on the best way to do this
The places we are looking at are Paris Amsterdam Germany Milan Vienna Budapest ending in Venice
Please be honest if this is pushing the boundaries ??
