Plae to go for perfect weather in October?
I saw on another post folks are already planning future trips for next year.
I will be taking some time off ...a week to 10 days during the last 2 weeks of October. Where are some ideal places to go for good weather in October in Europe. I'm going to Greece this year, so probably won't go there again the next Oct.
I like the scenery, cities, sea, mountains, small get away towns where I can relax and soak up the culture..... and an willing to go just about anywhere, proving the weather would we decent. Any ideas?
I'd appreticate any help

That's what I mean, I didn't know Oct was the rainiest. SO I'm not really looking for beach, but not raining either. Even somehing in the 60's or 70's.. nice weather for touring around.....hopefully in the sunshine, not carrying an umbrella.

According to weatherbase.com. the only place in Europe with average temps above 70 F in October is Lampedusa Island in Italy. This is just off the coast of about the middle of the foot of the boot of Italy. I have never been, but from a bit of reading of did, I think this might really fulfill all your requirements; albeit you may have some rain in October. Sicily may also work, but again you would probably have rain.
Although not technically in Europe, you might consider Morocco which would have good dry weather in October. Would fulfill all of your criteria, the mountains of Morocco are really beautiful and you can spend time on the coastline trip. Really wonderful people and food as well. Also Jordan or Egypt would be very good in October, although they may not fulfill all of your criteria (i.e. not a lot of oceans in Jordan but boy are their sites and a wonderful culture).
I have to say that if you want sunny weather, temps in the mid-70s, mountains, scenery, sea, cities and culture to soak up, then in October you really need to come to Hong Kong. I could even point you to some small fishing villages you can get to by boat and walks in preserves to get you into the small town feel. You could even hop over to Hainan Island, about an hour by plane, and take a beach vacation at the "Hawaii" of China.

You would do well in Crete or Cyprus at the same time. The weather base figures are a day average, so you could expect to have daytime temps of low 70s in Crete, but cooler evenings.
Cyprus is much the same, tho' I haven't looked it up

As usual, you guys are the best! What great ideas! I had not thought of the foot of Italy and certainly had not thought of Hong Kong. Half the fun of travelling is doing all the research, and you've given me real food for thought.
I don't need it quite that warm. I don't need to be able to swim, but don't want to get soggy every day either.
In the 60's would be fine too.
Thanks, everyone.

Consider southern Spain for a wide variety of things to see and do. Lots of golf and tennis (but not swimming), historic cities/sights, mountainous areas for hiking etc.
Not so packed with tourists as it usually is and a drier climate than farther north in europe.

I'd also vote for south Spain. You wrote you are going to Greece, and Portugal tends to get wetter around that time. Canary Islands would be warmer than mainland Spain. If not having rain is a higher priority, then Morrocco, Tunisia, and Dubai as alternatives.

I really like the idea of Spain and have wanted to go there for some time. It might be a good idea! Or the Canary Islands sound great too.
I've got lots of time to plan... and will enjoy doing it.
Thanks everyone.

My friends and I traveled to Croatia (with a day in Montenegro) last October and it was the perfect time to go! Crowds are gone but the weather is great. Mornings and evenings were chilly (sweater-weather) but days were sunny and warm. The coast is often windy. We loved Dubrovnik, Trogir, and the "Montenegro Blue" trip with Atlas Travel.

I may be asking the obvious, but would it be safe to assume that people would make the same suggestions about Spain and Croatia for early November? (arriving on the 4th; I guess this isn't much different than end of October!) My husband is planning a trip for us to Brazil and Argentina, but I have always wanted to go to Spain and have also been fascinated by the posts on Croatia, and just seem to have my mind stuck on going to Europe. And, what about Paris during this time? We'll see who's really the better half in our family when the decision is finally made. Actually, I'm sure we'll have a great trip no matter which continent we choose; just need to make a decision either way!! thanks for any advice.

thanks for your reply, W9London. i think we are going to South America, and I'll just have to get to these other places another time! There's not nearly as much chatter on the SA boards as the ones for Europe, but my husband is very familiar with the places we're going, and he also knows people who live there to get advice. We actually are returning to some of the sites of our honeymoon for this trip, our 20th anniversary celebration! (for the honeymoon, the destination was a surprise, and I did not know where I was going until we got on board and they announced "welcome to flight # whatever to Rio de Janeiro!" This time I will be able to learn a few Portugese phrases in advance! (a bit off-topic for a Europe forum, sorry, but a cute travel story nonetheless, I think!! When i went to get my picture taken for my visa, the person asked where I was going, and when I said I didn't know, he called my fiance, and then he covered up the destination information while I signed my name! not sure this would be allowed to happen today!)
