Places to visit in Rome and Paris.
We're planning to visit Rome for 3 N and Paris for 4 N in the middle of August. Can somebody tell us the places we should visit during this trip. Also, I heard I should buy tkts for Rome tourist spots in advance to avoid the lines - need the links for those websites, please help us with this . Thank you .

No, nobody can tell you the places YOU should go. That's up to you, because only you know what interests you and why you chose these two destinations to begin with.
Get yourself an armload of guidebooks and maps and start narrowing down what appeals to you in each place. When you've got an outline for each city, people here will be happy to help you refine your ideas.

These are the obvious places to start. Read them, then ask questions about what you find there, should you still need help.

You could take a look at Context and Walks of Italy for info on small group tours. These will help you avoid lines and gain entry to many sites easily. Both companies are well regarded - we did 2 tours with Walks of Italy and they were terrific.
Not sure if you are looking for the usual Rome sites (Coliseum, Vatican Museums). You won't be at a loss for things to see in Rome and Paris but it depends on your interests.
In Paris, consider some of the small, les famous museums if art is an interest...fewer crowds/lines --- L'Orangerie and Musee Marmottan are 2 I would recommend.

Who/how many is "we". If you have kids the answers will likely be very different than just for adults.
And why go to Paris and Rome if you don;t now what you want to see? The destinations section here and any basic guidebook will give you a good place to start.

In Paris MY must sees are:
Eiffel Tower
Notre Dame
Louvre
Musee D'Orsay
Rodin Museum
Walking some of the cute neighborhoods
Our daughters loved the Musee de Cluny (middle ages with the famous unicorn tapestries)
In London
Ancient Rome: Colloseum, Forum, Pantheon, Capitoline Museum
Vatican: Museum, St Peter's, Dome, Treasury (you can't do Scavi with kids) and Castel Sant Angelo
Many of the beautiful piazzas and fountains (can take a whole day)
Borghese Gallery (MUST have advance tickets)
San Clemente and a couple of other major churches (art, architecture and history)
Villa Giullia if you are interested in Etruscan art and household objects
With a small child you will need to allow some time each day just to run around and visit a playground in some of the many parks in Paris and check out some of the piazzas in Rome
