Places to stay in Florence?

Going to Florence for 2 weeks at the end of April 2007. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive pensione or hotel there? Also, I was going to sign up for drawing, painting or sculpture classes? Would anyone have a school to recommend? I am currently considering taking Italian classes and drawing classes at Scuola Leonardo da Vinci. Has anyone been to this school or have an opinion about it? Thanks.

Hi a,

We very much enjoyed 11 nights at the B&B Peterson.

PS, it's about a 10-15 min walk from the Scuola Leonardo da Vinci.

I took Italian language classes at Scuola Leonardo da Vinci 3 years ago and thought the lessons were good. Met students from Europe, Asia, and some from the U.S.

I don't know anything about drawing classes.

If you don't mind a curfew - you can stay quite cheaply with the nuns! I did it in Florence when I was a student. Instituto Oblate dell'Assunzione.

It wouldn't have been my first choice but I couldn't find anywhere reasonable to stay in a peak holiday time. The nuns even let me park my car in their courtyard.

We stayed at lovely old hotel a couple of years ago. http://www.hermitagehotel.com/eng_new/about.htm
Great location, great staff and room. Reasonably priced even in today's market.

Hotel Caravaggio - we stayed there last year, and it was a wonderful value.

Look it up (as well as the offered rates from various web-sites - we generally use Venere) on tripadviser.com.
