Place to store luggage in London?

I need to store my luggage somewhere in London until late in the day of my arrival. Can anyone recommend a place? In particular, does anyone know whether they have lockers at Paddington station? (I will be staying with a friend, not a hotel, so that is not an option.)

There's a left luggage room at Paddington station - it's not very evident, but it is there, hidden away on one of the commuter platforms. Just ask one of the staff to show you where. They do charge, but it's not very expensive.

actually, Paddington station IS pretty expensive - 4 pounds an ITEM. go to Euston Square - I think it is a set rate (if memory serves) - or if it is per item - it is a lot cheaper.

another thing to ask - check with your hotel - a lot of times, they don't have a problem with throwing your stuff in some utility/back room for a few hours. typically, the rooms are available around 1 PM anyway...

Do you not mean Euston railway station, rather than Euston Square?
And excuse me, Ms Anderson, but did you not read that Moira is NOT staying at a hotel?!!!

Euston Railway Station has a left luggage office that is manned 24 hours a day - I've used it dozens of times and never had a problem. I think charge for a day was around four pounds for a large suitcase and smallish rucksack. Victoria Railway Station has self serve lockers - you pay by size of locker. I don't know about Paddington but am sure there would be something there.

Euston SQUARE, Euston Railway Station - hey, when you subscribe to the 'close enough for horseshoes' theory as I do, it at least gets the point across. ;-)

kinda like in that Gary Larson cartoon, where the helicopter rescue team, looking down on an island where the stranded person wrote "HELF" ... and they decided "well, cancel the emergency, it says helf not help, guess we aren't needed after all..." I certainly hope that no one reading these posts needs to be hand held to THAT degree.... ;-)

(not that I am in any way insinuating that my life resembles a Gary Larson cartoon or anything. !!

re: the hotel option. mea culpa, and mi dispiace. I have a terrible tendency to skim these things and half answer two different questions.

but hey, I do stand behind all that I write - as evidenced by my usage of my real name and email address. If I catch myself, I'll correct an error whenever I can. even after the fact.

thanks for the heads up.

Beth

(actually, since Moira is meeting a friend and needs a spot until the end of the day, I would assume she means until her friend leaves work. why not drop the stuff at her office, if that is at all an option?)

I just got back from London and stowed my luggage at Victoria Station overnight. The cost is 5 pounds for medium size luggage and 8 pounds for large luggage. That's for 24 hours and then you pay a pro-rated fee for hours over that. I felt very comfortable leaving my stuff there - very secure
