Place to see from St. Andrews

Another topic I'd like to ask an opinion on:

We are flying from Paris to Edinburgh and picking up a train to eventually get to St. Andrews to explore the golf course and area for the day. What is a great place to go after St. Andrews the next day?

Merci!

You only have one day? There are soooooo many options it is difficult to give you any sort of useful suggestions w/o knowing 1) what sort of things you enjoy, 2) where you are headed after this 'free' day, and 3) your choices will partly be determined by whether you can/will rent a car or are limited to public transport.

I am staying a week near St Andrews in late April - the third time I've done so (not counting probably 6 other day trips/short visits) and have MANY more than a week's worth of 'musts' -- w/o a round of golf in the bunch.

from your other threads it appears you are also going to (at least) France, London and Ireland. How many weeks do you have total? Hopefully a good 4-ish weeks.

Yes janisj- we are staying for 4 weeks. Thank you for your concern.
We are just looking for things to do around St. Andrews other than the golf course. Don't plan on going to any museums.

You didn't answer the questions re public transport or driving? And what you enjoy? And where you are headed next could make a big difference re what is practical.

But St Andrews isn't just golf - there is a castle, cathedral ruins, terrific beaches, etc -- all w/i the town. So w/o more info, you could just stick to St Andrews.

By car or bus you could visit the East Neuk villages south of St. Andrews: Crail, Anstruther, Pittenweem, etc. But it's hard to recommend without knowing what's next on your itinerary.
