Pisa for kids under 8 years old

I'm traveling to Italy this summer with my kids and one of the things they are most looking forward to is climbing the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Ive just learned that the minimum age is 8. My youngest will be 7 years 10 months when we are there! Does anyone know how strictly they enforce this limit? Will we be required to show passports when we pick up our tickets to prove his age? Thanks for any help!

How strict they will be will depend on a few things:
1. the mood of the ticket inspectors letting you through once you've got your tickets.
2. how busy they are
3. If your youngest looks younger/is not tall
4. Italy!

It's one of those things - take the risk and hope, or find out by email (contact details on the site) if it will be allowed. You many not get an answer to your query, but it's worth a shot. Otherwise when you order the tickets, you'll only have to place one passport name/info in the voucher details, and will have to show that passport (and voucher) at the collection point, rather than ID of all going up. I'd still be inclinded to try via email first then see how you go and decide from there.

Personally, I wouldn't sweat it. We just went in December when my little girl was just 8 yo and two months. I bought tickets to climb the tower on site and she came inside with me to the ticket office. No one asked me her age nor did I have to show any ID (hers or mine) to purchase the tickets. But madam is correct in noting that rule enforcement can be completely arbitrary. I would agree that it might only be a concern if your child looks closer to 5 than nearly 8; or if your child is scared of heights. It's not for the faint-hearted, although this is usually more of an issue for the grown-ups!

Climbing the tower is an awesome experience for kids and my advice would be just to go for it -- and once you get there simply act like there's no problem at all. Good luck!

Thanks for all your help! My son is pretty tall for his age so we will probably just take our chances and hope for the best!
