Pilatus anyone?

I just discovered the Pilatus "golden roundtrip" on the net. It looks fantastic. Has anyone taken it??

Last month 4 of us did the golden roundtrip. We enjoyed it. It was approx. 78 american dollars each. Not sure when you are going but it is closed during the winter months (just threw the brochure away last week, sorry don't know exact dates). The last time we just did the cog train and we also enjoyed just doing that part.

Have only done the cog up and back. the views are fantastic - just be sure you get there before the fog (or was it clouds?) roll in. And - if you don;t have a good head for heights be sure to stay away from the edge. Some woman fainted when we were there - and had to be bodily hauled back to the restaurant. (I guess it never occured to her that mountains have edges!!)

I don't recall if it was called the "golden roundtrip," but we did something similar a couple of years ago. We took a short bus ride from Luzern, gondola(s) up to the top of Pilatus, a cogwheel down and a boat back across the Vierwaldstatersee to Luzern. We went on a particularly nice day and it was very enjoyable. The views from the top were great, as was the scenery all along the way.

It was not an organized trip; we bought our tickets at the hotel (can't remember the price) and went at our own pace.

In 1992 I did the same as ms go, only in reverse, as we did the boat ride first. It was the most the most memorable day of that trip. I highly recommend it.

Pilatus is one of our favorite spots in Europe. Years ago we went on a guided tour of Europe that included the cog train up one side and cable cars down the other side. Last year we went back on our own and just took the cable cars (little gondolas for four about half way then big cars on up to the top). We stopped at the halfway point and rode the sommerrodelbahn ...luge ride. It is a really long track and a big thrill ride. Pilatus has great scenery and it was a great experience.
