I am having trouble finding much on lodging in Pienza. Everything seems to be just outside of the city. Would like something within walking distance of restaurants at night. 3 star or so for around $100USD. Any recommendations?

Pienza is wonderful....but we just spent half a day there. Met some people who were staying at a hotel right in the town, and I know there are two or three at least. Pienza is small, just a couple of main streets, but would be a great place to stay. On a hill looking out on a gorgeous view. Lunch was wonderful,....and I'll be watching this forum to see what people recommend for hotels. You can always put "Pienza hotels" on "Google" search and come up with something perhaps.

Emily,<BR> My fiance and I stayed in Pienza in March. That was one of my favorite cities. We stayed at Olivere Camere. I forget what street it was on, but the owner was so nice and gracious. He made sure we were happy. It was only $56 euro a night too. The rooms were small but very clean. He doesn't speak any English either, but the housekeeper does..very limited though, so bring your dictionary. look it up on venere.com....

Hi Emily. My husband and I are staying in Pienza next May. He really wanted something in town so we could walk to restaurants at night. Even though it is a little more than I wanted to spend, we settled on Il Chiostro which is smack dab in the center. It is @ $175 a night for a double.

We stayed at the Hotel Consignano *** in Pienza for 6 nights last month. The location was good, right at the edge of town, but Pienza is a small town. Our room and the Hotel were fine. The food was all right but not outstanding. I don't know the cost because we were with a small elderhostel walking group.<BR>The telephone number is o11.39.0578.748501.

It is a very beautiful hotel. However, some of the rooms are horrible. I had a room there in 1997 that must have been a monk's closet. I could not even carry my suitcase in without tilting it sideways. There was absolutely no table or chair or desk--absolutely no place to lay things except on the television, which I therefore used as a table. I could not open my suitcase unless I put it on my bed. When I was using the bed, the suitcase remained standing alongside it, and I had to step over it to get to the bathroom. I was on a walking tour at the time, and this tour stayed in nice places and generally requested the best rooms available in each category. However, apparently many of the better rooms were taken up by a larger German tour group, which was leaving he next day. The guides were horrified when I showed them the room the next day and requested a room change for the second day. The hotel did have another room, and I was able to move, but the hotel management was rather ungracious. The new room was adequate, still much smaller than any other room I've had in hotels of supposedly much lower price, stars or quality, and the mattress was broken--completey sunken in on one side. I do not recommend making a reservation in advance at this hotel. if you can see your exact room and like it, then it might be a fine place to stay, but otherwise, I wouldn't trust this hotel to give you decent accommodations.<BR><BR><BR><BR>

Sorry for the rather delayed thank you to all for your advice. I'm still not feeling convinced one way or another, but will do some more investigating and hopefully make a decision soon. Any other ideas are much appreciated!

Sorry to recommend something you don't want, but our favorite place in the Pienza area is a B&B just outside of town called Le Traverse. We loved staying there and several of our freinds have also stayed there. Emily, I don't know how long you are staying in Pienza, but we found some charming lodgings right in the center which are very inexpensive - they are all listed on www.nautilus-mp.com/tuscany, then search Pienza.<BR><BR>In particular, we liked Hotel Antica Locanda, I Gaggi (an apartment), and Il Giardino Segreto (another apartment).<BR><BR>Debbie

Thanks for all the great info. I have emailed Antico Locanda and am awaiting a response (seems to be taking awhile). If that does not work out, there do seem to be some other nice looking places on the websites you all recommended. The Mauro e Chiara looked really neat to me. Maybe I will do another posting to see if anyone has stayed there. Thanks again!
