Picos de Europa - Need advice please

Hi all. What is a good town/city to use as a home base to see Picos de Europa? Is one full day enough to see the sights? We only want to drive through as we don't hike or camp. Thanks in advance.

Lucas

I drove through with a couple of stops for a few hous in Cangas de Onis and a couple of hours at Our Lady of Covadonga shrine. I didn"t feel the need to go up to the lakes for a walk and look-see around there since I've spent much time at lakes and mountains.

See the link to pics that I put on your other Gijon vs Oviedo thread.

Unfortunately you cannot see the so called sights in the time allotted. There is simply too much to see and do.
Some say Canagas de Onis, some say Potes, Some say Fuente De, another suggest will be the village of Las Arenas de Cabrales.
I am most sure I have missed one or tow.
So where are you coming from and where are you leaving for? I assume you have a car.

It looks as if you are still rushing your itinerary despite the advice not too.

We stayed at Santillana de Mar, lovely, picturesque, etc, and easy access into the Picos.

We stayed in Potes for a couple of days which i remember being fun, though the details are a little hazy as this was nearly 30 years ago. I do remember that we wanted to get the cable car up to Fuente De but couldn't as it was fogged in, so I might not decide to stay up there.

Santillana seemed touristy to us all that time ago, but we were there in July so that might not have been representative of low season.
