Picling Up Rental Car in Kelsterbach instead of FRA Airport - Anyone Done It?

I read a suggestion on gemut.com about picking up your rental car in Kelsterbach which is only 8 miles from FRA and about a 10 Euro cab ride to save on the 19% airport tax. Not many car rental agencies list Kelsterbach as a pick up option though. Has anyone ever done this before? Any problems?

We didn't do this, but we took the train into downtown Frankfurt to pick up our car (for the same reason you cite, saving money on the airport tax). We had no problem with navigating our way out of the city, but the whole process took us longer than we had anticipated, and I don't know if I'd do it again.

julies, that's why this option sounded so good. It's only 8 miles from the airport so it should just be a short cab ride. I do not want to go all the way into Frankfurt to pick up a car.

We picked up our car at Mainz - and returned to the Frankfurt train station (no drop off charge)... for a month long car rental - the 19% savings was very worth it. No surprises - worked easily...

Nope, never picked up a car there (good suggestion though for November, thanks). But we left our car in Kelsterbach once when we flew somewhere to save on parking (college times, yes, we were cheap).
Kelsterbach is only one or two stops with a S-Bahn on public transport.

The only possible problem I could think of: If you absolutely need an automatic or a GPS or some other special - make sure they have it.
