Photo workshops in Tuscanny Umbria Amalfi Coast or nearby

I am planning to go for a trip in Sept-Oct and I was wanting to go to a photo workshop to learn the manual side of my camera. I am a beginner photographer stepping up and would like to hear from anyone who can recommend anything they have been on. Often they combine teaching, photo shooting, critquing and learning the photoworkshop programmes along with the seeing of inside places that tourists would not usually go to.

I am an amateur photographer and have never done a workshop/vacation combo (unless field studies classes in college count), but I would rather know how to use my camera prior to a trip to such an amazing destination. I would suggest taking a couple classes at home and then applying what you learn on your vacation. The end result will be images your happier with. I am still itching to go back to destinations workshops not far from my hometown were held in to see how my images would be now.
Bottom line... learn at home, apply in the field... just my opinion.

If you can't find anything online, look at some photo mags. Someone gave me a subscription to "Outdoor Photographer" last year and there were some ads for trips. Good luck!

I know an American photographer in a very off-the-beaten path town in Campania...I believe she is organizing a photography workshop, but I'm not sure of dates or details. http://lamericana.blogspot.com/ is her blog.

David Hoptman does photo workshops from his home and studio near Sorano: http://www.davidhoptman.com/photogra...ps-in-tuscany/

Authentic Adventures does photography holidays in Tuscany and Abruzzo: http://www.authenticadventures.co.uk...ays/italy.aspx

I've done workshops with AA in Morocco and India - wonderful! They are organizing a group holiday with photography tutor for me and a small group in May in San Quirico D'Orcia. Have never been with David Hoptman but know several people who have and they thought he was very good.

Kia Ora and thanks so much to all who have responded with links, advice and hints. It has been extremly helpful and I have looked at all the links with much interest. I have also looked at Digital Photography magazine which is where I got the idea in the first place. I like the idea of doing a course at home first and Canterbury Uni is offering some excellent workshops to learn the basics so I am going to do that before I go to Europe. The hard part will be in choosing where the destination will be. I do love Tuscany.
