Phone Apps for Spain: Barcelona and Catalonia
We will be in northeast Spain for the next two weeks.
So far I'm trying out these apps that have been recommended by friends:
TIME OUT BARCELONA
TRIPWOLF
METRO BARCELONA
FREE TRANSLATOR
WEATHER+
I've added all our confirmations, airline ticket info, reservations, entertainment tickets, etc, on TRIPIT. It's a great travel app to keep everything together in one place.
Have you found some excellent phone apps that have proven invaluable for your travels? Please share them here.

There are Apps and there are Apps, but if you are online, and not using a free WiFi conection, they will cost you. Overall, Time Out Barcelona is not that good unless you don't mind spending the money to get what you can from the Tourist Office. TRIPWOLF is only so-so at best. The rest are up in the air.
We use Google map (on free WiFi) while traveling, but nothing else. We try to plan in advance.

We were there last week. I had used Time Out before our trip just to get some additional ideas and it was ok. Also used GuidePal, and it also was ok. Did not really use them when we were there, but they were good planning/research tools.

Thanks! We have maps and detailed itinerary printed and packed. Please check out my other thread which has our itinerary and plans. http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...-to-europe.cfm
I've prepared so much I kind of feel like my brain is a Catalunya travel guide. ;-) If we don't have free wi-fi, we won't be using our phone. I've haven't invested anything in apps, they were all free. We'll have GPS in rental car for touring Catalunya. We will pick up another map at a petrol station, and as we visit turismes.

You'll be better off buying the Michelin regional map 547 (Aragon & Catalunya) and the Micheline Zoom maps 146 (Prinieos Orientales) &147 (Barcelona and Costa Brava), rather than relying on the GPS in your rental car.

I am going next month and I have the same apps as you.
One thing that we use all the time when traveling is International Texting. My service is with
ATT but I'm sure others have it. We get 50 texts for $10, I usually get it for my husbands as well as my iphone. WE are able to text each other without any roaming charges, we can text home or to friends and they can all text back, you only pay for your outgoing texts. It has worked for us for at least 3-4 trips!
Have a great time, I can't wait to go in Feb!
