We have booked a great rental in Amsterdam in April. I trust they are reputable, as they were recommended by friends of ours who have stayed there twice. They have been 12 years in renting the apartment and have LOT of reviews) -- At any rate, the owner has told us that we can pay when we get there as they are having issues with PayPal at the moment.
I have no problem with this, however I'm not sure how we'll be able to get the 950E all at once from the bank machine once we arrive. I can only withdraw $400 at a time here in the US as it is now.
In the past, when securing rentals abroad, we have always paid via credit card.
Any suggestions?

Have your bank raise your daily limit. Withdraw from two separate accounts in two separate banks (it's a good idea having separate cards anyhow.) If a limit is imposed by the European bank on its ATMs, withdraw from different bank ATMs. Some banks have bank cards now that can be loaded so the withdrawal is from the card rather than the account. Or, the old-fashioned way, buy travellers cheques in euros and sign them over to your landlord (ask him in advance.)
I will make no comment on the relative costs of these services.
FWIW - and this runs against the conventional wisdom and experience here - but only the year before last I took the option of paying my Paris apartment rental of 1500 euros upon arrival with Amex Travellers Cheques [in my case obtained commission-free through Australia Post and at a marginally better rate than my bank was using to supply euros in cash or to load on its travel card]. If your apartment's owners are having issues with PayPal maybe they will agree to accepting Tchqs for the time being at least.
