Paul Durand-Ruel -The Gamble of the Impressionists - Manet, Monet, Renoir
This new exhibit will be at the Musée du Luxembourg through February 8, 2015. For those who love the Orangerie, the Marmottan and the Orsay, this should be an interesting exposition of the importance of Durand-Ruel who tirelessly supported these artists both artistically and financially.
After the Luxembourg, the exhibit moves to the National Gallery in London from March 4-May 31, then to the Philadelphia Museum of Art from June 18-September 13.

To coordinate with this exhibit, a free 8-week online MOOC course is being offered. It's in French. More info here:

My husband and I just went to this exhibit. It's not large, but the selection of paintings is excellent, with Monet particularly well represented. A must-see for anyone who appreciates the Impressionists.

Glad you enjoyed it. We liked the Chagall retrospective they did last year. I find I now really prefer the smaller, more focused exhibits. Unfortunately, I'll probably have to wait for its arrival in Philadelphia next summer to see this one.

MAINEGG, very interesting. I really enjoyed the DURAND paintings in the WALTER-GUILLAME exhibit downstairs at the ORANGERIE in Paris. I had not known much about him until that time.
Thanks for the info...

I wish I could go! - As an exhibition it is important even for those who are not huge fans of Impressionism. Durand Ruel was the template for modern art dealers and this laid the foundations for the art industry of the 20th Century.....fascinating man and fascinating subject.

Nikki - I just finished the first of the eight units of the course. It was fun, if a little confusing. I would be interested in hearing about your experience if you decide to sign on.

Tres bien.
an excuse to try to get DH to Paris, perhaps?
BTW, on our recent visit to Germany, we were very surprised by what we learnt about german impressionists in the picture gallery in the Schlossmuseum in Weimar - ok, nothing quite to rival the great french impressionists but some good stuff nevertheless, and there was clearly a lot of cross-over between them.
