Hello, I am in a bit of confusion and my travel agent cant seem to help me out properly.

I will be flying to Frankfurt from Copenhagen on a domestic flight. I need to know would i be going through customs/passport checks at Frankfurt?

The thing that confuses me is that I would be arriving at Copenhagen via an International flight a few hours earlier but will NOT be taking a connecting flight. Rather I would claim baggage go through passport checks at Copenhagen and then probably go to another terminal at Copenhagen (CPH) airport to take a local flight to Frankfurt. Is this right? Would i need to go through the passport checks again at either leaving Copenhagen or arriving at Frankfurt while flying inside the schengen zone?

Any help will be much appreciated.

All Schengen-bound passengers arriving from outside Schengen go through immigration at Copenhagen, whether they stay airside or go landside, and whatever kind of connection they're on. If bags are checked only to Copenhagen, then in principle they're liable to Customs inspection at CPH, though in Western Europe we have more reliable, cheaper, methods of monitoring what's in people's baggage than the steam-age, job-creating, time-wasting nonsense some countries waste their taxpayers' money on and you're very unlikely to be troubled.

This is International Travel 101. If your travel agent doesn't understand it, he's an incompetent fool and you should fire him immediately.

In theory, you then arrive in Frankfurt as a domestic passenger and don't go through immigration. But, with the free-movement policies of the Schengen agreement in some disarray at present, it's perfectly possible that on-arrival passport checks might be resumed by the time you arrive in Germany. Most airports are set up to allow this with limited disruption.

On flights, especially into Germany from Nordic countries: highly unlikely. But people-traffickers are proving very agile in developing new routes into Germany, and possible German reaction is impossible to predict weeks in advance.

Passengers carrying bags tagged in Copenhagen are practically certain not to be stopped at German Customs unless there's a very, very serious security or health scare: things not currently on most people's lists of impending crises.

I wouldn't say that passports are often checked inside Schengen, but you <b>do</b> need to show a suitable identity document before getting on just about any flight. Obviously, for most foreign visitors a passport is the most appropriate thing to show.

That's just like if you are flying within the United States. You can't just get on any flight without showing some kind of ID. If you were a foreigner, that would be your passport.

I don't really understand why people are so concerned about these issues, anyway. So what if you have to get your passport checked, it will either happen or it won't.
