Parking in Cassis France

We are considering staying at Maison 9 in Cassis France. The reviews on Trip Advisor are excellent. Our concern is that my husband has bad knees. We will have a rental car. What is the parking situation in Cassis? We will be arriving there October 1st. The walk would be uphill on the way back to the hotel and it seems to be a good 15 minute walk with good knees!

this was posted on TA.

Cassis has a parking problem no doubt. There's a parking lot at the port for 70-80 cars, but you couldn't count on getting a spot there. You might try using Google Earth to get a feel for the elevation of the properties you're looking at. Plug in the address, move your cursor over the property then compare the elevation to sea level. It isn't precise, but it would give a notion of the climb.

Thanks . We saw that posted on Trip Advisor but I think it was posted in 2008. We were hoping that hopefully being there in October and 4 years later that something has changed!

Thanks. That was quite helpful. I am really hoping that we will be able to stay at Maison 9. It looks so beautiful!

Maybe there is someone online who has been to Cassis recently!

If you stay near the port, you'll be ok... I just checked maison 9. That is a hike!!!! I am fit and lived in that area for a week, and found it challenging on foot!

So you are giving me hope that maybe this will work! . We will probably spend time downtown eating lots of bouillabaisse and seafood. We heard that the beaches are very beautiful. I thought that there would probably be less tourists in October. We plan on relaxing in Cassis after spending a week in Paris and 4 days in Aix en Provence.

I do not want to hijack this thread, but does anyone know if the train station is within walking distance to the town? I would like to go there on a day trip from Nice. i understand it will be a long day, but I don't mind the train ride.

Cassis train station is 3 km / 1.9 miles from the harbour and a good 40 minute walk along a busy main road downhill into town - and uphill back, of course. If this does not appeal, a list of taxi numbers is posted in the station opposite the ticket office (there's a small bar-restaurant opposite the station for you to wait in). Or try pre-booking with Les Taxis Cassidains, tel (+33) 4 42 01 78 96.

The best beach is on the far side of the village, on the way to the Calanques. I'll try to find the name. Spent a week in Cassis, one of my favorite spots in France. The wine is merveilleux, and do try the thyme liqueur! Fabulous. The best restaurants and wine bars are in the small streets leading to the port. And the Cassis perfumes are worth checking out. Can't wait to go back and but another bottle!

Thanks for your suggestions..we are so looking forward to Cassis. I will be sure to check out the thyme liquor andthe perfumes too.

My husband is still a little nervous about the parking situation. Do you know of any other hotel or B&B closer to the port that is clean and nice? I thought when I checked it out about 4months ago that the reviews on TA were not very good for anything close to the port.

Is there reliable taxi service on a regular daily basis in October in Cassis?
Considering staying in Maison 9 which seems to be a long uphill climb after dinner.

Hi CoCo

We are good. His knee intermittently gets swollen and it makes getting around difficult. He had not had a problem in a long time until a week ago. However today it feels much better.

We did book Maison 9. The receptionist there said that in October it will be better and that we will find parking.

Two years ago we were in Sarlat in the Dordogne and then to Spain. France is my absolute favorite.
Hope you and your family are doing well. It is very nice to hear from you in beautiful Dijon!
