Paris-where to stay in the 8e
I am planning a trip to Paris in June 2008, want to stay in the 8e, looking at Royal hotel, Golden Tulip St. Honore, Hotel Marceau Champs Elysees. Any feedback or suggestions?

Many people will probably 'shoo' you away from the 8th, but I liked the area around Place de la Madeleine, plenty of shops, grocers, cafes, etc... I don't know if any of these are in that vicinity. You can also check for comments at Tripadvisor.com

Hi
Have you been to Paris before? Is there any reason why you specifically want to stay in the 8th?

see -- exactly what Travelnut predicted. People don't like it when someone wants to stay there.
I'm sure the Golden Tulip is a comfortable hotel, but it's fairly new and modern (and probably a lot of business people). Is that what you want? Could be, sometimes comfort and amenities are nice. Personally, I'd choose a location closer to a metro stop. It's sort of near several, but not really that near any one. That would probably get tiresome to me, after a while.
ON the other hand, the Royal is about right on the Champs Elysees and I wouldn't like that, either (it is near FDR metro stop). At least if you mean the one on rue Colisee. It also appears to be only a 2* hotel and boring modern in that way of Parisian 2* hotels so I'd definitely choose the Golden Tulip over that one.
What level of hotel are you looking for, those just seem very different. I also might like the area around the Madeleine and there are several nice moderate hotels around there, like the Queen Mary. That would be a convenient location, also, and lots of good food shops around there.
I stayed in a hotel I liked very much which is a smaller, typically French hotel near the Arc, but technically it is in the 17th arr (ave Carnot). I didn't think it would be your style until I saw what the Royal was like. It would be a pretty convenient location, being not far from the Etoile metro. It's a 3* hotel
