Happy new year, everyone! I'm looking forward to Paris in April and would love to know where I can buy an Hermes scarf at a good price -- dare I say, discounted? Of course I know there's something special in buying one from the Hermes store itself, but I detest paying full price.
Thanks in advance!

I don't think you'll find them discounted but you may want to try some of the re-sale shops in the 16th.
I have never in all my trips and shopping sprees in Paris, seen Hermes discounted outside of the store having a sale.
I don't shop second hand shops in Paris, but you might look in Suzy whatshernames Born To Shop book..
Happy Shopping~
I think Accessoires a Soie in the 16th handles 2nd-hand Hermes scarves. Or Didier Ludot. Not just straight discounted but if you don't mind 2nd-hand...
I don't think I would buy a second-hand scarf; scarves are so personal, such a part of the wearer that I would feel strange in someone else's scarf.
However, I see that the Carte Paris Visite gives you a 10% discount at Galeries Lafayette, which I would think would sell Hermes. I just don't know whether Hermes items are excluded from the discount.
Hermes is excluded at GL, and so is Longchamp, and any of the high end brand names. You may want to try the duty free shops at CDG, the prices are a bit lower.
Les Trois Marches
1 rue Guisarde sells mostly Hermés and Chanel. The scarves go for about 130€.
If you buy at the Hermés boutique new, they are about 380 and at the airport boutique, I've paid 320. So you'll know, new the large square shawls go for about $695 in the chiffon and 895
for th silk/cashmere. Be sure to examine any scarf in a second hand obscure shop. The originals are in a silk twill and the seems edging is stitched on the outside rather than the onside as others.
Bonne Chance!
excuse the typos, seams are hand stithed in the same coor and the Hermés name is never huge.
Hermes DOES in fact have a big sale coming up, but it will last only 5 days and won't be held in its store:
The sale will be held Jan. 16-20 in Salle Gaveau (on the 45 rue la Boetie)--they don't want the bargain hunting hoi polloi in their regular store, of course! Silk scarves will be marked down 50%; that's a big drop considering that most European sales are only 10-20% off. Shoes, belts and beach towels (?) will also be half price.
My understanding is that only a certain amount of merchandise will be available each day; no restocking for that day if the allotment is sold out. So get there early and be prepared. Sounds too stressful to me but if you are determined to get that H brand for a discount...
Hello again, Cigalechanta. I should have known you'd have all the details!
I recall my first encounter (years ago, on my first visit in Paris) with the edging hand-rolled onto the right side of the scarf. It was a silk-twill square byYves Saint Laurent, and I thought it was defective until I telephoned the YSL boutique to inquire.
I'll check out the duty-free selection at the airport upon arrival, and then look in Hermes boutique as well. I will pay full price if I have to, drat.
BTilke, the sale you described is tempting, but the cost of RT airfare just to go next week for the sale might cut into my savings!
There is a similar sale in London- again never at the store. There were no silk scarves or men's ties at this "winter" sale. I have seen them at the summer sale however.
There was a limited number of shoe (summer for the most part). A lot of winter items- sweaters, coats, etc. Prices were still eye watering.
As othes have said, the "best" prices are usually at the airports. But these smaller shops will never have the ful rnge of colors and patterns as the larger shops do.
Sandykins, try the shop I mentioned. There's another I'll check out that I read about in the 4th, called rags at 83 St Martin.
Cigalechanta, does Le Trois Marches sell Hermes scarves new, or second-hand? And did you mean 380 euros or dollars in the Paris boutique?
I live just 1/2 hour's drive from an Hermes boutique in Vienna, VA, and the scarves there are just $320.
Trois is "gently used"as those shops who sell good quality seod hand. $380 but I haven't priced them lately, I will in February. Some designs get discontinued. I'm sorry I let one pass.
The latest you can see on line.

Where is the sale in London and when does it end?
Our Boston in- shop sale starts the Jan 25th but like London, there are no scarves on sale.
The shops I mentioned aren't obscure. I read about them both in Fodor's & Suzy Gershman's books.

Didier Ludot is the one who has the shop called Little Black Dress that sells for $400 & up?? The other shop is nearby.
Mary, No one said your suggestion was obscure?
But just remenber that Hermés dose not sell anywhere but their shops or designated dept stores like NM, Saks.
But for the second hand like Mary's and mine, those suggestions are of good reputation but still remember how to evaluate a fake.
Forgive my ignorance, but what are the important ways to distinguish a real Hermes bag from a fake. And a scarf? Thanks for educating me! In Suzy G's book on Italy, she mentions a shop in Florence that claims to sell leather items identical to Hermes and made in the Hermes factories. Thought I might take a look next week.... (The name is Ponte Vecchio in the Piazza del Mercato Nuovo..if anyone has been????)
That's ok if you want a copy, but the Hermés bags take a long time to make and that's why the price tag. I'll find some posts on google as I can't type long posts.

Great info..thanks!! I always wondered about all that stuff that seems so cheap on Ebay!
While reseaching on google for fakes, I was amazed to see someone selling the little orange book on how to tie scarves from Hermés for $35.
This is something you get free in Paris when you buy a scarf!! On EBAY they make it look like a big book but it's only four and half inches squared.
Hi Mimi, you said:
"Be sure to examine any scarf in a second hand obscure shop"
So I wasn't sure if you meant mine; just was trying to clarify. No offense was taken.
OMG, no! I didn't mean anything you posted only directed at sandy for when she or any poster may wander into an obscure place. Everyone who goes to Paris knows your shop mentioned is tops, but alas I hear some favorite places are no longer there, not sure about the black dress shop. I know My Colette shop is gone, a few restaurants. Anyone been there the last few weeks?
Ok, cool!
Just checked Pages Jaunes & it still shows a listing for Didier Ludot although I couldn't find one specifically for Little Black Dress, but perhaps it's called something else?
cigalechanta:
Thanks for the date of the Boston shop's sale. I've been meaning to call them for that very info. I'm curious to know how you know no scarves will be on sale. That's what I was hoping to snag there. (grrrrrr)
BTILKE is correct!
We went to the sale last year. Waited in line for an hour just to get in and really didn't find any good buys. I wouldn't pay 500 euro for a Hermes speedo! The prices were still high and product somewhat damaged. We went to Hermes on rue Honre ? and did some price comparison and only paid 20% more for up to date product and in perfect condition. Hermes does make a beautiful collection but wow do all those people walking around with Hermes bags really shop like that all the time?
I think I'm glad to hear that the sale in Paris is just too crazy. We're leaving on the 11th for a long weekend and coming back on the 16th (enjoying the beginning of the sales, among other things!). I was just about to kick myself for not staying an extra day, but I think we'll just have some fun browsing the re-sale shops.
Hermes always has a warehouse sale in New York City the last week of August. it is usually held at the Alliance Francais on 60th street off of Madison. I have gone the past 2 years and it has not been that good. The scarves were cheap, $150 per, but ugly!!!!
Havana, because I asked when I stopped by for the new catalog.
The Longchamp sale is on and Louis(!!!!!)
starts tonorrow.
cigalechanta: LOUIS!? Are you serious? Do you really shop there? If so, please give me some idea of what you hope to find at the sale. I went in that store many years ago, & all I remember is seeing a very plain white cotton shirt that buttoned up the front (looked like your basic Brooks white button-down) and it was $350 or something. And that was 15 years ago! And on top of that, I have the dubious distinction of having worked with none other than Debi Greenberg - when she was still Debi Pearlstein - and frankly, the idea of putting a penny in her pocket makes me ill.
p.s. I rue the day Bonwits became Louis.
Louis is very cutting edge now. The sale is 50% off and then 60%. I scout the sale and buy something, but mostly wait til it gets to Filene's Basement in few weeks.
LOL, I did hear Debbie was a witch to work for!!!
I miss the Safari room!!
Touche!
I'd forgotten about that. I don't know when the Museum left because it was always Bonwits when I lived in Back Bay.
For vintage clothing, the name of a shop is Le Petit Robe Noir, in the Palais Royal arcade.
OK, just curious, what is the advantage of a Hermes scarf?
There is no advantage. I only like some designs like my 30 year old scarves( mushrooms!) and did buy a new mushroom one. The size was important to me when I was younger back than and slimmer. Two made a beautiful skirt, one a halter for dinner or under a suit.
There's an autumn leaf one in the new collection. I'd like it but it won't be on sale. I don't like the horsesy, and medallion, ropey designs. I collect scarves and not just to wear. Mostly bought on sale. I use them as table covers, sometimes on a window Covering a part of a statue of David, I bought years ago in Avignon by mistake, and have wrapped presents japaneese style to a friend. It's like a prference for one handbag or another. I never prefer one over another.
Mimi, that little book you sent me from Hermes has a wonderful scarf with orange leaves on it. Is that the fall scarf you are speaking of?
I showed it to the Yankee, he knows I want it...( in my dreams lol)
Yes, I saw it at th Hermés shop at the airport in September.
