Paris: Villa d'Estrees -- Has anyone stayed here?
My husband and I are considering staying here.. and would love to know if anyone else has. I've read the reviews on TA, (although there aren't too many of them) but I'm looking for some candid feedback on the rooms, the staff, etc.

Yes it's true, and I don't know. But there was no place on the booking form to indicate a credit card and just a sentence at the bottom about printing the confirmation and handing it to the reception upon arrival. The place has only 10 rooms (but they look good-sized); so perhaps they have no trouble re-selling rooms if someone fails to turn up. The cancellation policy is 2 days before arrival.
I just received an e-mail with another confirmation, and it says
"Total booking amount : EUR 735.00
Total requested online : EUR 0.00
---------------------------------------------------
>> The balance due is : EUR 735.00 <<
Maybe they just trust people? At any rate, it sounds like my kind of place.

The rooms look spacious so to me this hotel is more of a better value than the other suggestions you got. I understand there's a restaurant next door or opposite to the hotel that's supposedly good. I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay there.

We stayed at Villa d'Estrees for five nights this past September. As I recall they charged one night to our credit card when we made the reservation and we paid the balance upon checkout. You may want to contact them. We loved the hotel and are already making plans to go back next fall. There are only ten rooms in the hotel - two on each floor. Our room was on the top floor. It wasn't one of the rooms pictured on the website but was very similar. Very well furnished large room with a good sized bathroom. Staff is quite friendly and helpful. Location is excellent - located on a quiet sidestreet just a block from the St. Michel Metro station. Dozens of restaurants and cafes within close walking distance. An easy walk to Notre Dame, St. Chappelle, Musee D'Orsay, and the Louvre. I don't think you will be disappointed - it is a great hotel. If you have any other questions about the hotel, let me know.

That is surprising since just earlier this year we had to pay a deposit and a cc guarantee. Ours was an internet only rate, maybe that made a difference. I will be booking for next year soon so I guess I will find out if their policy changed.

I just made our reservation for next September. I was requested to pay one night's deposit on my credit card. It appears as a requirement on their reservation policy. Did you get the internet only rate? That is the only thing I can think of that could explain the difference. In any case you won't regret your choice of hotels.

Yes, it was the Internet rate. It all feels very strange--we've never not had to pay some sort of deposit. I'm glad to know that we'll like the hotel! But as our French friends would say, "Cést bizarre."
