My Health insurance covers only certain Medical emergencies it doesn't cover emergency evacuation.Do I need to get the emergency evacuation insurance separately? Where I can get a good quote?

I think anway is crazy to travel without full medical coverage which includes medical evacuation. In addition some of the medical trip insurance includes other things such as hotel room for companion , ect though all are different....I think if you type health ins in the box threads will pop up which recommend various plans. If you are using a travel agent check with them. In addition, check your credit cards as some have this as a "perk'.

To my knowledge no one's regular medical insruance in the US covers emergency evacuations. It's usually bought as part of travel insurance (ie to cover other travel issues - not minor health issues.)

Wether or not you need emergency evacuation insurance I think depends on your age and state of health (yes - anyone could possibly use it - but very few young people in good health do).

I would check with wherever you usually get travel insurance.

..age is not a protecter. A friend had injuries after a skiing accident. He was only 28 fit and a superb skier. Fortunately he had trip insurance. It was a family vacation and his parents had automatically bought it. Thank goodness- apparently this medical evacuation would have been about $60,000.

Anyone of any age can be the victim of a traffic accident, a fall, or something similar that would make you require evacuation.

Be aware that you must buy the trip evacuation insurance within something like two weeks of purchasing your vacation.

Basic membership gives you 100k worth of evacuation insurance (not medical coverage- but just to get you home) for diving or non-diving accidents or injuries from anywhere 50 miles from your home or farther. The family membership is $44

I've had some recent experience with medical evacuation insurance.

Most travel insurance policies with medical evacuation provisions only provide an evacuation to the nearest hospital that can provide the medical services you need. The medical care in Paris is good and so it is unlikely that you would be evacuated back to your home.

One of the few companies to provide medical evacuation to your home hospital with few limitations is MedJet. The only requirements are that you are stable enough to travel and are hospitalized at departure and will be hospitalized at the receiving hospital. My mother recently broke her hip in France and was hospitalized there. MedJet was going to fly her home in a medically equipped jet so she could have the surgery back in Los Angeles. Ultimately, the family decided that she should have the surgery in France as the hospital she was at was perfectly capable of performing the surgery. Most travel insurances would not have been willing to fly her back to Los Angeles since she could get the care she needed in France. Her care at the French hospital was great but it sure was nice to have the choice.

Bottom line is that you need to read the policy to make sure you are getting the kind of coverage you want.
