paris to venice advice needed

ADVICE needed for flights from paris to venice:

1). ryan air- cheapest option but heard that there are significant problems with the airline canceling it's flights at the last minute, also only 1 late night flight out per day. anyone have experience with this or can validate the problems?

2). roundtrip on air france- more expensive but stable and confirmed flights and can arrive earlier in the day; consider buying roundtrip but forfeiting the return segment. anyone have experience with this or think of any problems with entering into Italy- flight doesn't match hotel reservations dates, etc?

3) overnight train - not preferred for our party; while can sleep overnight and arrive without wasting the day in venice, heard there are security issues as the cabins can be opened by anyone, etc.

I'm not trying to talk you into it, but I really LIKE doing this leg by overnight train. If you reserve a private cabin for 2 people, there are no security issues, you lock your own door.

Ryanair don't fly from Paris, they fly from Beauvais which is about an hour by coach from Paris. I'd also have a look at their luggage rules and do a search for the (printable) comments on Ryanair rules & prices

Have a look at Myair if you want to fly from CDG or Orly to Venice

For the train see www.seat61.com/Italy.htm#Venice and www.seat61.com/Europe.htmvernight

Important points are the location of the airport, because they are outside of the city in both paris and venice, there is certain time you need to consider in even getting yourself on a flight. Train stations are in the heart of both cities.

The locking you mention is only if you book a shared couchette with 4-6 other people.

Hi AL,

www.myair.com flies Paris ORY to Venice VCE.

Ryanair flies Beauvais to Treviso. Both are some distance from the cities.

No one will care if you fly AF to Italy and don't return to France.

>heard there are security issues as the cabins can be opened by anyone, etc.<

oh, pish tosh.

However, if you are traveling in a couchette with 5 strangers, you will want to take the usual precautions.

I did (2) on Air-France except from Venice to CDG. Threw away the return ticket. They had a special rate that turns out to be comparable to the budget airlines, very good service.
