Paris to Nice Questions

Planning trip to Paris and Cannes (via Nice)end of June or July. Question 1. Anyone aware of nonstop flights from Newark or JFK to Nice. AF site doesn't show any and I await response from AF.
Question 2. Any experience with Flight to Paris and then the Speed Train to Cannes (or Nice?). Must I go to Nice first?
Question 3. Is it possible to buy tkts on speed train Paris to Cannes or Nice online?
Merci beaucoup.

Hi Thomas,

You can book tickets up to 60 days in advance on line at

http://www.voyages-sncf.com/dynamic/...geUK&WB=HP

Leave France as the place to pick up your tickets.

Choose the ticketless option. You will get a confirmation number.

Bring this number and the CC card you used to charge the tickets with you to the train station. They will give you your tickets.

Enjoy your trip.

Y

1. Not aware of any non-stop flights from the US to any other airport other than CDG in France.

2. From CDG, you don't need to go to Paris. There are frequent trains to Lyon or Marseilles, and switch trains there. Or there are also a few less frequent direct trains from CDG to Nice (like one at 11:24am). Takes about 7 hours from CDG to Nice, including a connection.

The easiest way to get from CDG to Nice is to fly. Air France has quite a number of daily flights from both CDG and Orly; going from CDG is very convenient when you're arriving there.

The high-speed train (TGV) doesn't go all the way from Paris to Nice--you go from Paris to Avignon or Marseille or Aix and then continue on a normal-speed train to Nice, which is why the trip takes a fairly long time.

I believe that in summer there are Delta flights directly to Nice from the east coast.

One thing to consider about taking the train: at the moment, for security reasons the luggage-storage areas at the end of the cars are being taped off. You have to keep your luggage with you at your seat if you can't heft it into the overhead shelves, which aren't too large.

Thank you ira and rkkwan. I saw somewhere that Delta flies nonstop to Nice or is it Cannes? The search on the scnf site is a bit shakey. I can't seem to get a page showing schedules per station. From which station in Paris is the best one to get the tgv? It doesn't say if the tgv is nonstop nor does it list station stops. However I did print a schedule from Gare de Lyon to Cannes Station, a five hour ride. I just now saw Underhill's reply. Thank you. Does the tgv leave from CDG. At any rate, seems like flying is more convenient. I may do that or just stay in Paris. Couldn't hurt, n'est-ce pas?

Hi Thomas,

If you go to the SNCF site you will find the 0754 TGV direct train from Paris Gare de Lyon to Nice Station. Trip takes 6 hr.

You can also take the TGV from AIRPORT CDG 2 TGV direct to Nice Station. 6:15 hr.

Hi,
Last summer there were direct flights from NYC to Nice. I think it was AA. I almost bought tickets for my son, but he could not go. Have fun.

Thomas - You're right. DL does fly to Nice from JFK. I wasn't aware of that. The freuquency went from 3 times a week in early March to 6 days a week or daily right now.

About the TGV, from what I understand, the last part is indeed on regular rail, but you don't have to switch trains. The train just won't be going at 180MPH after Marseilles. Like ira and I desribed, you don't need to go to Paris to catch the train. You can take it at the station at CDG Terminal 2. Some trains go directly to Nice (6hr 15min), some you have to switch at Lyon or Marseilles (~7hr total). You don't want to go into Paris to catch a train to the south - waste of money and time.

Thomas,

Delta and Air France have a code share arrangement and fly non-stop from JFK to Nice. It's about an eight hour flight. A taxi to the center of town takes about 15-20 minutes.

Good luck, and have a wonderful time!
