Paris to Giverny train ticket sold out

My friend and I want to take the first train from Paris to Vernon to visit monets house in giverny on Sunday September 3rd. The earliest train it shows online leaves at 1419. Does that mean the earlier train is unavailable or sold out? Do we have any other options to get there early on the 3rd. Thanks in advance.

On that Sunday there are no earlier trains (according to www.bahn.de/en - German Railways site which is usually right on IME) and this train cannot sell out I believe because it does not require reservations and anyone with a valid ticket can board TMK - trains go to Vernon, 3 miles about from Monet's House.

Check www.bahn.de/en for an earlier rail connection that involves 3 changes of train and goes via Rouen and back - for how to use www.bahn.de/en and all the neat stuff it can tell you check out the home page www.budgeteuropetravel.com which gives several useful tips on using it.

If I were you I'd bop into a train station in Paris and ask the Info counter about the 14:19 train and tickets, reservations, etc.

Better yet go on any other day when there are several earlier trains.

It can't get sold out; it's a regional train. If there are no seats, you stand. There is no earlier train on that date. Buy online now or as Pal says go to any train station in Paris ahead of time and buy them, or just buy them in Paris the day of your travel.

I looked at www.voyages-sncf.com also. It is the same story. Sept 1,2,4,5,6... have earlier trains but not on Sept 3. It has a look of some kind of track maintenance on Sept 3.

The 1419 trains gets to Vernon at 1505. You will be at Giverny ~1530. The last entry is 1730 http://giverny.org/monet/home/

Trains at 7am on Sunday to Vernon - are you sure -could not get info from your link on a casual attempt - this is important to OP why would SNCF site not say so or www.bahn.de?

Again OP should pop into a Paris station and ask Info desk.

Like janis says Monet's place can be especially mobbed on weekends.

Because the link kerouac gave is NOT TER/IC trains such as those on SNCF. It shows a way to get there through the RER and train/bus from Mante la Jolie or something. It's convoluted, but you can do it.

OK - great news for OP and assumingly these correspondances go throughout the morning on a Sunday. Problem sovled and I believe those trains and buses can never sell out? And no reservations possible anyway.

Interesting that the transilien site offers the 7 a.m. departure but the SNCF site does not.

Thank you all so much for all your help! I truly appreciate it! The alternative train option seems rather complicated, so perhaps we will just go with a tour group or pick a different day trip option and save Giverny for another time! Thanks again!

It's not complicated. Take the train to Mantes la Jolie and catch the bus which probably starts at the train station. Kerouac's reproduction of the diagram on the web site leaves out coloration that would have clarified the diagram.

Tour group certainly makes it easier - taking you right to Giverny and the gardens not Vernon where trains take you. But yes those Sunday trains may sound complicated but IME of taking similar train/bus combos are not.
