My family is traveling to Paris this summer, we would like to spend 5 days in Paris and 5 days in Copenhagen. Does anyone have any advice about a trip like this. My husband would like to see if he has any family in Copenhagen. I'm not sure what to do in Copenhagen, my 16 year old son wants to also go to Sweden, I don't think there is enough time for that, but maybe I'm wrong.

Copenhagen is a lovely city. You can easily spend 5 days there. If your son wants to see "the nearest city in Sweden", that's really simple now since there is a bridge. (It was even simple when you had to take the ferry.) A day trip to Malmo would probably be interesting just to see the subtle differences between the two places.

There's plenty to do in Copenhagen to fill five days, it just depends on what sort of thing you're interested in; museums, galleries, parks, cruises, shopping and nightlife are all there in abundance.

Regarding going to Sweden, you can easily do a day trip to Malmo on the train from Copenhagen. Trains run very frequently between the two (and beyond) across the Oresund bridge (which alone is almost worth the trip to Copenhagen in my view).

I'm sure people will be able to give more specific suggestions if you let us know what you're wanting/hoping to see and do.

We are traveling with two teenage boys 15 & 16, can they go out on their own a bit in Copenhagen without any problem.

Copenhagen is a very walkable city so as long as you choose somewhere that's roughly central you'll be able to get pretty much everywhere you want to go quite easily.

I can't help on apartments I'm afraid, but there are some really good hotels across the city. What's your budget?

To respond to your other question about your boys, I'd think that they wouldn't have any problems at all being out and about on their own as Copenhagen's easy to navigate with a half-decent map.

There's lots of back streets and 'off the beaten track' shops and cafes to explore too.

Copenhagen is an extremely safe city, your boys will be fine. There is very little crime in Denmark. Women leave their babies in their prams out on the sidewalk while they are in the store shopping.

We've been to Copenhagen twice. I'd have no problem with letting your teens wander on their own. I would suggest a hotel, however, in the center of the city as opposed to an apartment on the outskirts if the teens are going to explore on their own. We had two connecting rooms at the SAS hotel across from Tivoli Gardens on our last trip. Great views.

There is plenty to see and do in Copenhagen, but I believe getting there from Paris may be a bear. Don;t know about discount airlines, but the train takes from 14 to 20 hours and won;t be cheap.

We had connecting rooms at the Radisson SAS as well, that gave us one full side of the building, and overlooked the Tivoli Gardens, which of course you should take your teens to, or have them go on their own. That was my 50th birthday -- going on all the rides at the Tivoli, watching the night light show & fireworks, then spending the entire next day at the Bakken amusement park on the outskirts of Copenhagen in Dyrehaven, an incredible deer park. Bakken is supposedly the oldest amusement park in the world -- whatever, if there's a wooden roller coaster ride, I'm there!
