Paris: Shuttle or taxi to hotel in the 7th?

I've heard many people say that a shuttle is a pretty good option to get you to your hotel and a bit more cost effective. For 2 people...approx what will it cost for a taxi vs shuttle to our hotel in the 7th?

Any shuttle recommendations?

Maybe you'll get some recent comparisons, but in the past it usually sounds like it comes out about even. Two thoughts, though. T
While many people have had good luck with different firms, there have been numerous reports of people waiting and waiting for their shuttle, and sometimes it not showing up at all, regardless of the company. I have never heard of anyone unable to get a taxi immediately upon arrival or within a very short wait in line. And you don't have to get a calling card or find a phone to call a taxi to let them know you've arrived and it is OK to come pick you up now.

Last summer the 2 of us took parishuttle from CDG to the 7th, and it cost less than 35 euro. They were on time, easy to deal with, and got us to our hotel quickly. No complaints.

At the risk of adding unsolicited information, check the hotel address and see if it is near an RER stop. We took shuttles in the past, but last year just took the train from the airport to a block from our hotel.

If you are coming from overseas, you will arrive in Paris with baggage -- and very tired.

Like "wren," we arrived, used the Parishuttle (arranged in advance via the internet), and were dropped off at our hotel's front door in the 7th near the Ecole Militaire without a hitch. Smooth as silk. No hassles whatever.

A taxi should cost you about €50. They are waiting at the curb and will take you directly to your destination. A shuttle needs to be called to come and get you. It may save you €15-20, but may make several stops for other travelers before you get to your hotel. On the other hand, you may be the first drop.

I take a taxi because I'm tired and want to get where I'm going as quickly and as comfortably as possible.

WE will be in Paris in NOv....there are two shuttles,,Parishuttle, and Airport Connection. WHICH IS BETTER???
I like the good reports here on Parishuttle, but have heard previously that Airport Connection is more reliable. SO, now we don't know what to do . 2 years ago we were with another couple and arranged for Airport Connection,,,,there was a little mix up, but one appeared for someone else, and the driver told the 4 of us to get in,,,so it worked out.
WAS it this site or another that told of the hazzards of a taxi, ...thiefs opening the doors at stop lights and robbing passengers. I am not an alarmist and this doesn't bother me at all for it seem very unlikely...however lately there HAVE been some unpleasant occurances that are rather bad.
Anyway...what's the vote on Paris Shuttle, vs. Airport Connection.??? Thanks!!!

We used Parishuttle in June, and have a very mixed impression. While the van arrived on schedule, and we were fortunate to be the only passengers traveling from CDG to the 4th, the young driver was a bit too relaxed (reading while driving) and our seat needed the bolts tightened to prevent the feeling of riding in a rocking chair. On our return trip, the van was packed and we were all rushed. The driver requested payment, although we had prepaid through our internet reservation. I guess we'd been spoiled by Limoservice Roma when traveling in Rome (efficient & courteous drivers, well-kept vans). Parishuttle was on-time and efficient, but did leave something to be desired.

We've used a shuttle fom cdg the latin Quarter on several occasions. No problem. You book it in advance and then phone on arrival, and they pick you up. I guess it is about half the cost of a taxi. One problem however is that they stop running fairly early in the evening. If you are an experienced european traveler and are familiar with the paris metr/rer system -take the rer, if not take the shuttle.

I've used both and I prefer the extra cost of a Taxi when I arrive and lately even on the trip back to the airport. Why? Convenience and time saved. If you do use Paris Shuttle, they will tell you to call before you pick up your bag. The call is easy and they speak excellent English. HOWEVER, once when I did it their way my baggae took forever and the driver left. I can't say as I blame him as it took nearly 45 mnutes. So my advice is to have your bags before calling. After a journey of 22 hours, I was less than delighted to have had my shuttle leave without me. On the way back to the airport I have had to leave 3 to 4 hours before my plance causing an very long wait at the airport. On the flip side, once gong to the airport Airport Connections was picking up another person after getting me. We waited at the hotel in the van for an hour. We finally insisted he leave and it took several heated complaint before he finally did leave. We got to the airport on time, but it was close.
So...I'd rather take a taxi. If you do chose the taxi option go to the official stand. The guys hanging around baggage claim will say their taxis but their rates aren't regulated. To get to the seventh will cost about 50 to 60 Euros for two.

You get pretty much waht you pay for...I've used ParisShuttle on several occasions without difficulty but in order to avoid the "problem" of long-lasting luggage off-loading I would agree with calling them AFTER you have luggage in-hand.

Now, here's something nobody above has mentioned...the Paris TRAFFIC! And it can be a nightmare and can drive that "only 50 or 60 Euros" fare WAAAAAAY up if you get caught in it.

So, what to do? Good question..it can be a toss-up...how much money are you willing to spend?

Hi by,

A shuttle (www.parishuttle.com or www.beeshuttle.com) is generally reliable, and the price is fixed - about 18E pp.

A taxi will be about 50E, unless you get caught in traffic.

Everyone spends his/her money in different ways, but if I were going to be frugal and not want to spend for a taxi,I'd be even more frugal and take either the RER/metro, or the Air France bus (assuming I can manage my luggage from the bus drop off or metro station to my hotel). I'd be too impatient to pay a medium amount of money and have to make other stops, or leave for the airport hours earlier.

Hi I agree withh Topman, the taxi fare depends on several unpredictable circunstances. We used to take taxis but the last time we took one to our hotel In L'Ille St Louis, guess what ?the taxi got stuck behind a a truck that was unloading in one of the little streets. We paid a lot more that the usual fare. I speak fairly well French and know Paris too. However there was nothing to do at that point except getting off the taxi and walk with the luggage on tow. May be also he was not that honest , and on the way from CDG there was traffic ,...etc etc after this I decided to forget taxis and this next trip because we are going to a hotel in the 7 eme, we are going to take the Air France Bus and then Bus 92 to practically the hotel door.
One day that we got a bus out of Gare de Lyon ( we
went to Vaux, no luggage) I was amazed with the number of locals traveling with suitcases. So this time we shall do the same.
The problem I believe is that arriving in the morning early it is the rush hour.

We stay in the 7th and take the bus into Paris from CDG. It lets us off close to the Opera metro stop. Then its four or five stops to Ecole Miltaire and we walk two blocks to our hotel. Total cost for one person is around 10 euro's.

I understand people being tired or not wanting to 'lose time' but both those reasons drive me to take the Roissy bus as Eric noted. It's there whenever my luggage appears; if it takes off without me another one soon appears; I don't worry about traffic congestion; and the Metro is quick and easy to the 7th.

Since I'm coming from the US, taking time to arrive is ok with me. As of yet, no hotel has let me check in at 9 am so I leave the luggage and start my day in Pairs.

I have used the shuttle on past visits but am wondering (since there will be 4 of us this time) if a taxi may make more sense? Is cost per person or just flat rate in taxi?

As I noted earlier we take the bus in but their are only two of us. More than two and I would take the shuttle or a taxi.

Taxis never charge per person (although a flat supplement charge of 2.45 euro for the fourth person), but it's not a flat rate, it's like any taxi fare -- base rate plus mileage and time, plus a bit per baggage item.

I have never had a taxi fare in Paris to/from CDG and Left Bank amount to more than 50 euro, regardless of traffic. Usually the final fare is around 45 euro. I have sat in some traffic jams on the peripherique for a bit, and there has been heavy traffic, but never that much. Sometimes with completely clear traffic, the fare has been more like 40-43 euro. The charge for waiting time in traffic isn't that great (24 euro per hour of waiting), so I think it would be very unusual to get a fare of 60 euro, let alone more, to central Paris. I'm sure it is theoretically possible, but lots of problems with shuttles are possible, also.

I agree with Elaine on this, I think. I take a cab because I don't want to fool around with shuttles, but if I just was trying to save some money, I'd just go for public transportation and at least be in control of the process. I could see how a family might have other considerations, however, but groups make the taxi fare more reasonable per person.
